Question Speakers, or Movies?

I haven't been in with Blu-Ray for even a year. And I'm a broke ass highschooler. But I think my collection isn't terrible, but far from great..

I try to buy movies as much as I can. And I absolutely love watching my collection grow . But when I browse this website all people talk about are how great speakers are. And peoples galleries are flooded with pictures of there audio setup. Should I keep adding movies to my collection? Or just save some cash and buy speakers? You decide.

Thanks

Blu-ray is a 50-50 proposition....VIDEO and AUDIO play an equal part!

Save for an audio setup to get the most out of your Blu's.

What u really need to do is save up some cash so you can buy yourself a nice HT system that way you can enjoy all those films you have purchased, the real benefit of Blu-Ray films is the PQ & AQ so yes you wan't to be able to see & hear how amazing Blu really is

I get much more out of getting my entire HT system together. All parts play an important role. You can get some pretty good stuff without breaking the bank. When I was in HS I bought what I could afford, kinda like now. Except now, I can afford more toys. Save up for something you want and you will enjoy it for years to come.

Having a large collection is great, but when I got my speakers it completely changed the way I watch movies. I now feel like I need to re-watch all of my movies to get the full experience.

Also, they same great feeling you get when you get a new Blu is magnified many times over when you add a new component to your HT.

I had about 50 BD's until I started getting serious of upgrading my TV speakers.

If had to do it again.. I would buy speakers first, and still buy BD's that are truly on sale.

Check out my HT gallery to get some ideas...

I really don't have a whole lot of money to be spending on speakers. But I think I'll get them anyways. Just one step closer I suppose.

The only reason I liked Transformers 2 was because of the sensational sound and picture quality.
Take your time and build your theater. Don't go super cheap, because you'll find yourself wanting to upgrade it to quickly.
This is the perfect site to ask fellow members about what you should get with your budget.
You don't need the awesome and highly expensive set-ups that you see on this site, find a system that works for your enviorment (Room size).
I myself would love to have the numerous HT's that are shown in the galleries, but I just don't have the budget. Probably what they paid for one sub is what I paid for my whole set-up.

A lot of vary good responses in here for the OP !

Remember half the experience of A Blu-ray movie is the sound track . Being able to enjoy that good sounding track enhances the movie that much more !!!

I have crappy speakers (will change one day), but I do 99% of my movie watching using headphones as I usually watch movies late at night and don't like keeping others awake (my headphones are balanced HD600's with a CA Dac Magic and mini3 balanced amp [shal be having a balanced beta 22 built for me soon ]). I also have bass shakers attached to my bed so my bed shakes as if I where using speakers (it's very fun to put on Transformers opening action scene and watch people jump when the bass suddenly kicks in ).

For the OP, I say buy a semi descent cheap 5.1 set-up (<$100), and continue buying blus and slowly save up for a nice sound system.

Hey Owen, I'm with everyone else, get some speakers bro. But do it wisely, and build a quality system slowly as you're able to afford each piece.

A little over a year ago, I started off buying my TV, PS3 and a few blu's and I was ecstatic. But after a month or so, I started thinking about beefing up the audio. I bought a decent receiver and some Polk towers and was thrilled at how much more I was getting out of my movies. Then I bought a sub on black friday, and that opened up a whole new realm to my movies yet again!

So it's a lot of fun building a setup, and remember, all of us on this site are here to answer questions man. As for starters, I would get a nice pair of towers and a sub. Then a center, and then surrounds, etc. I would look into Polk, Infinity, and Energy. These brands have amazing performance for a great price. You'll find that around $350 (plus receiver) can get you a sweet 2.1 sound system

Nice headphones Suntory, I'm getting a pair of HD595's soon so that I can enjoy my movies and games late at night as well. How will they sound when plugged into my Onkyo 805? And how do you have yours set up, I'm curious because I'm to this headphone stuff. Do you have the amp plugged into the receiver?

I saw a post by you that said you had "several thousand" DVDs...... yet you haven't felt the need to invest in any better audio than a $40 Wal*Mart special?

To each-his-own, but I think you'd greatly benefit from allocating some of your media funds into getting at least a "Basic" sound-setup.

If you asre using a PS3 as your BD player, look into the Z-5500 speakers as a starting point for a 5.1 experience.

Not sure of your situation, but I had a job in highschool to help fuel my car audio addiction. I did construction in the summer and worked at a video store during the school year. I was able to make about $10K a year which was awesome in the late 80's/early 90's for a high schooler. Bought a car along the way then too. However, I also seemed to rack up a lot of debt because I wanted/needed more than I could afford.

Getting a job will help with funding your interest in this hobby.

Good luck!

How do you know my name?!?

I will most likely being upgrading to some speakers. I really want the best of my movies. But I really can't afford very good speakers. I think I'm just gonna save up some cash and buy something that serves its purpose

That's easy. Sound system. Movie formats will come and go... but a good sound system is forever (with upgrades and updates along the away of course.)

Owen Lol, I think it's commendable that you appreciate and collect movies at such a young age. I have to tell you that I first got introduced to hi-end audio when I was in high school, and I've been hooked for life.

If you really like movies, then you'll really appreciate them with a quality sound system. I would suggest saving your money for an Onkyo, Yamaha, or Sony HTIB (Home theater-in-the-box). Find one with 5.1 speakers and a receiver that can process lossless audio as a starter. That will at least get you into the game, and you can upgrade later, after you're through school and working. Once you get that squared away, you can resume BD purchases.

Good Luck!
