Default The Other Cinema (Arthouse/Foreign)

There are plenty of great films that are produced around the world. Perhaps we could use this thread to collect/show posters and info about them.

Please do not submit posters for mainstream/Hollywood films.

Thank you.

Posters only? Or can we do some info, as well? And can I add domestic (U.S.) indie films?

Absolutely. You can do anything you want. The idea is to show the community what isn't easy to spot, or covered by the mainstream media.

I get a lot of foreign press releases/info but I don't usually have the time to create separate threads. In the future, when we begin covering theatrical releases, I would probably write more, but for now posters, announcements, and release dates is all I could submit quickly.

Alright...

I'll start with Winter's Bone directed by Debra Granik

This is a spectacular independent film, featuring a standout debut performance from the 19-year old lead, Jennifer Lawrence. She plays 17-year old Ree Dolly, whose father has abandoned her and her family in a crisis. Having been arrested for drug trafficking, he uses the deed to their home as collateral to pay his bail and then goes into hiding. Ree is tasked with tracking him down before her and her siblings' home is taken away from them, while receiving absolutely no help from her mentally distressed mother, who spends the entirety of her days blankly staring into space.

As she hunts for her father, and her family's salvation, she learns that family is not as important of a bond as one would think, and that she might be getting into a dangerous situation that's well over her head.

ICON FILM DISTRIBUTION ANNOUNCE

29th SEPTEMBER 2010 RELEASE FOR

BURIED

STARRING RYAN REYNOLDS & DIRECTED BY RODRIGO CORTES

Open your eyes. You’re in a closed space beneath 2500 pounds of soil. You have 90 minutes of oxygen left to breathe. Your only connection to the outside world is a mysterious cell phone with limited reception and battery life. And each second is a second closer to death…

‘Tight and claustrophobic. Buried is a master class in invention and suspense’

Damon Wise / THE TIMES

Paul Conroy is not ready to die. But when he wakes up 6 feet underground with no idea of who put him there or why, life for the truck driver and family man instantly becomes a hellish struggle for survival. Buried with only a cell phone and a lighter, his contact with the outside world and ability to piece together clues that could help him discover his location are maddeningly limited. Poor reception, a rapidly draining battery and a dwindling oxygen supply become his worst enemies in a tightly confined race against time— fighting panic, despair and delirium, Paul has only 90 minutes to be rescued

BURIED will open in cinemas everywhere across the UK 29th September 2010

Optimum Home Entertainment:
Quote:
DOG POUND doesn't hide its despair about the juvenile prison where its story takes place. From young French director, Kim Chapiron (who made 2006 film, SHEITAN), this drama is a chilling walk through a training ground for violence and aggression, able to stand up on its own bare-boned terms to comparisons with Jacques Audiard's A PROPHET, DOG POUND follows three young offenders with a camera that couldn't be closer to the skin. Cinematographer Andre Chemetoff sustains that tactility throughout the film, so the cramped spaces are felt as much as seen.

DANNY BOYLE'S 127 HOURS WILL CLOSE THE 54TH BFI LONDON FILM FESTIVAL

London – Friday 13 August: The 54th BFI London Film Festival, in partnership with American Express, is delighted to announce that the Closing Night film will be the European premiere of 127 HOURS on Thursday 28 October.

Danny Boyle's highly anticipated 127 HOURS stars Golden Globe winner James Franco (MILK). Boyle, the Academy Award® winning director of 2008’s Best Picture, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is reunited with Academy Award® winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy and Academy Award® winning producer Christian Colson. Warner Bros. Pictures UK will release 127 HOURS for Pathé in January 2011.

The filmmakers and stars, including Danny Boyle and James Franco, are expected to attend the red carpet. Boyle last attended the Festival in 2008 when the European premiere of multiple award-winning SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE was also the Closing Night gala.

127 HOURS is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston’s remarkable adventure to save himself after a falling boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, abseil a 65 foot rock face and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. A visceral thrilling story that will take an audience on a never before experienced journey and prove what we can do when we choose life.

127 HOURS is a Pathé, Fox Searchlight Pictures and Film4 presentation in association with Warner Bros. Pictures of a Cloud Eight/Decibel Films /Darlow Smithson production. The producers are Christian Colson, Danny Boyle and John Smithson with executive producers Francois Ivernel, Cameron McCracken, Tessa Ross, Lisa Maria Falcone, Bernie Bellew and John J. Kelly

Sandra Hebron, the Festival’s Artistic Director comments: “Having closed the festival with SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE in 2008, it is unprecedented for us to choose a Closing Night film from the same director only two years later. But 127 HOURS was the obvious choice for us - with filmmaking as bold and adventurous as its subject matter, it confirms Danny Boyle as one of the World's finest and most visionary directors, and will be a very fitting close to the festival.”

Danny Boyle comments, "I am honoured and delighted that 127 HOURS has been selected to close the BFI London Film Festival. LFF played a vital role in the journey of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE in 2008 and it's great to be bringing new work here and renewing a happy partnership. I can't wait to unveil the new film and I hope it provides a worthy climax to what will hopefully be two weeks of great movies for our city."

The full programme for The 54th BFI London Film Festival will be announced at the Press Launch on Wednesday 8 September.

The Festival runs from 13-28 October 2010. For more information: http://www.bfi.org.uk/lff

Great idea but there's already a thread I created many months ago that is still used, "Foreign, indie, and classic film thread"
