Exclamation Problems with 'Public Enemies' picture quality?

So what's going on with the 'Public Enemies' Blu-Ray? I'm really interested in purchasing it since I loved the film in cinemas, but I've been reading very polarized reactions in terms of the picture quality. Some say that it's incredible and that Mann's use of HD cameras really bring out the image, while others say that it is one of the worst transfers they have seen because of discolored pixels and grain. Are there some bad copies of the film flying around? Has anyone had any problems with the film? Finally, should I wait a little while to make a purchase? Thanks!

If you are unsure, then rent it first.

I haven't noticed anything wrong with the picture quality.

I was very impressed with the PQ of this movie. I have no idea what people could be complaining about, nor do I really care. There's always a handful of malcontents that find something to cry about.

The grain was there in the theater. Same with Miami Vice... if you shoot natural light in low light settings, you will have alot of grain, because you have to open up the ISO to allow more light. Higher ISO = more grain, whether film or digital.

Regardless, the Blu-ray is an accurate representation of how the film was shot, so if you don't like the picture quality, blame Michael Mann, not the transfer.

There were some geeks over @ AVS that were actually complaining about the PQ in the Transformers ROTF IMAX scenes.

if the director intended for grain to be there, and it was there in the theaters then why would folks expect it would not be there on the blu version? everyone is always thinking Ivory Snow for these transfers and since they had Marilyn Chambers as a representative....

bottom line is when it's a bad transfer, fine but this was not that case. it looked incredible and the audio, a perfect 5 x 5!

Probably...some people are just the miserable types. They can't stand to see people happy about something.

I had no problem with the PQ, however I did with the sound! Half the time it sounded like the actors were mumbling and I had to turn the subs on.

It looked fine to me just not really worth a re-watch.

Your rental copy is the same PQ as every other copy, which was an accurate representation of how the film is supposed to look. FWIW.

I finally got to watch this last night and the PQ is very good, for the most part. There were some scenes that were extremely grainy and looked pretty bad, but overall the rest of the film looked beautiful.

Both the PQ and SQ are the same as they were in theaters. The picture had excelent parts and then some not so excelent parts. The sound had some fine dialogue, and then parts that make you jump because it gets extremely loud midsentence for no reason. But it's the way they wanted to do it for whatever reason.
