Default Torchwood - Children of Earth

I finally received my copy yesterday and ended up watching the whole 5 hours series last night. I was already a pretty big Torchwood fan but this Children of Earth package has to be one of the best series of drama (and sci-fi) that I have seen in a very long time. I was on the edge of the seat for much of it and was very into it.

I'm not sure if anyone else here has seen it yet but it is really good. The PQ and AQ are very good as well - about in line with the Season 2 set.

Can you compare it to something, for somebody who has never watched or even seen to many commercials/previews for Torchwood?

I watched it when it was shown on BBC HD here, to be honest I thought it could have been trimmed down to maybe 3 episodes instead of the 5. Good overall but bits I found boring to watch.

I recorded the series off BBCamerica, which is a pretty dreadful looking channel on my DirecTV service.

After watching the first episode, I ran down to the shops to buy the blu-ray, and watched the whole thing in one evening too!

Terrific stuff. actyper, I don't know if this will help, but "Children of Earth" plays very much like a modern-day "Quatermass."

I don't know what to compare it to. I'd recommend checking out season 1 and 2 of Torchwood before watching it to get it all.

I watched S2 and then S3 (CoE)--enjoyed them both very much. But, they've sort of written the series into a corner at this point. Does anyone know if that was the end of the series or may there be a season 4?

There is likely to be a season 4 from what I read. They said the ratings for series 3 (Children of Earth) were quite good and likely warrant another season. It will be very interesting how that all works though if it happens

Great. But the major spoilers at the end of S2 and S3 involving the characters seems like such a mistake at this point. I'll bet the DVD and Blu-ray sales have also been good. So, who knows what will happen if there is a S4? Wonder if we'll get a full 13-EP season or one of these compacted seasons?

Yeah the regular season vs miniseries question is interesting. I suspect they'd do better going back to regular season. The miniseries thing wouldn't do as well multiple times I'd think.

I hope there is more though. I've never watched Dr. Who but maybe i'll try to watch that now that I'm without Torchwood for likely a long time.

They'll probably take a year or 2 off like they've done with Doctor Who. Maybe do some specials (again as with Doctor Who). I suppose Jack could turn up in Doctor Who also during one of the remaining specials or when the series returns next year.

They've added a great new character in Captain John Hawk in S2, so it would be a shame not to bring him back in the future. And, there's still a lot of Capt. Jack's background we could learn about. The termination of the series is there, but so is the start of a whole new season. They could now go either way.

Yeah I hope it's just a minor role since some people are reporting that he will skip torchwood to do Desparate Housewives.

I bet there's a lot more money in that show than Torchwood and I guess he could be considered quite handsome so he would be a hit with the ladies who watch it.

I just started The Children and it is a little "jerky"........ like is being replayed at a slightly faster speed. Still scene's are almost stunning.......great color and all, but if anyone is moving, it is off. Even the lips look like a dubbed movie......any thoughts.

Played on a Sony with 120 refresh rate and an Oppo player.

Well it's from the UK and is a 1080i50 production I believe. I'm not sure how the conversion is done but that may be related to what you're seeing. I don't remember seeing any issues like that myself though.
