I am looking to buy one to two Blu-ray players and thought I would come here for suggestions. I have browsed a few threads, but still thought I should start my own.
For my Parents: I am looking to gift them a Blu-ray player. I am considering something on the low end, maybe along the lines of an Insignia player as they don't need much and just would like access to Blu-ray. I just don't want to get them something bad that will not last long or operate terribly. They just want to be able to watch some of my Blu's and don't have a HT set up and it would be on a 720p LG LCD. I can wait to see what upcoming Holiday sales might arise as well. For myself: I am looking to replace my launch 60GB PS3 as my primary BD and up-scaling DVD player. Mainly because of the heat output and fan noise the system generates. I don't need to replace the player, but it would be nice. I don't want to replace my PS3 with a PS3 either as I am keeping the PS3 for gaming. I am thinking of something in the sub $300 range and I am partial to Panasonic and Sony products but not hard set on them. I like the ease of use the PS3 offers as far as ease of updates, load times and built in hard drive, so something that may be close to as good as PS3 has been for me. The Oppo-83 sounds great, but I am not looking to spend $500. I am using a 5.1 surround through digital optical currently, but may be upgrading to a 5.1 or 7.1 system through HDMI in the near future. Analog outputs are not needed. Wifi is not needed, but a bonus. Streaming (Netflix) or other net services are not needed. Any upgrades to picture or color quality would be nice as well. Thanks in advance. |
