Default PS3 not registering dolby digital to my receiver?

I have an optical and hdmi cable hook up. When i watch standard dvds dolby digital is highlighted but when i play BD discs, it won't . Its titles it as PCM enhanced pro logic. What do I do within the system to change this?

Your receiver doesnt decode it, Since you have a PS3, it decodes the HD audio and sends it to the receiver as PCM...

So if your receiver says PCM , your getting HD audio

When you play a Blu-Ray with a HD audio track (Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA), the PS3 by default is configured to decode these internally and then send the PCM signal to your receiver. You're still getting the HD audio that makes Blu-Ray's great, but the PS3 is doing the decoding and so your receiver won't show "Dolby TrueHD or HD MA".

If you go into settings -> Video Settings -> BD/DVD Audio output format (HDMI) should be set to "Linear PCM". That's the correct setting to take advantage of HD audio through an HDMI cable.

How's the PS3 connected to the receiver and what's it capable of decoding? Are you using a chunky or slim PS3?

Either way:

Settings > Video Settings > BD Audio Output Format (Optical Digital) > Bitstream

Make sure that's set to bitstream.

I'll give it a try, though I played Ironman months ago and it worked, but when i put in Transformers 2, it went to the PCM.

thanks

if your not using hdmi for everything, and your using an optical for your audio you need to switch your ps3 settings to bitstream

Since your using optical set it to bitstream, like this. Or else your going to get 2.0 LPCM.

If your HDMI input on the receiver can handle audio then don't use the optical cable. HDMI > Optical for sound quality. The instructions I put before are for if you're using HDMI for your audio.
