Okay, I'm sure this has been asked about a billion times, but I did several searches and found little help; either the threads were really old or the search brought me to sale item. So I apologize.
I NEED a player that will play region B discs. I would prefer not to enter codes (no mods, if possible) and I need it to be relatively affordable. Sleek-looking would be nice, too, but beggars can't be choosers. Now I read that the Curtis Mathes CMMBX72 is region free, but no-one has confirmed it? And this might sound retarded, but I honestly don't know: What if I was to buy a U.K. imported blu-ray player? Would it work here, in the States? I'm sorry if this is annoying, but I didn't know what else to do. Any advice is extremely appreciated. |

OK, so there are a few Region Free BD players out there but all of them need to have a code input when playing an alternate region disc.
There is the OPPO BDP83, which needs to have a modified firmware, and then can play any region BDs The Momitsu BDP899 and 799, which need remote hacks are good choices, but the 899 is hard to come by, but the 799 is now available. There are the "Momitsu Clones" which are similar in shape, size, and insides of the Momitsu 899, but is missing BD-Live, and can't play many formats such as BD-Rs and AVCHD, etc. The Curtis Mathes, VisionQuest, RWC, TMY, etc are examples of them. Now, if you get a machine imported from the UK, yes you can use it in the states, by adjusting the power setting on the player, but remember UK machines are preset to Region B, |

Does anybody on here have a PS3-slim and cares to look at the back/bottom to see what the (max) power consumption is?
I ask this, because power converters from 110-input to 220-output can usually handle a very limited amount of Watts; 50 or 75 Watts is not uncommon. (by the way, the other way around is usually 1.500 Watts or so, but that's not the issue here). (@manicsounds: The OP needs a converter 120 to 240, not the other way around) |

Okay, I've decided I can't afford a PS3, lol. I'm thinking of going with this:
