I am purchasing a 37" LCD set for my parents. So far the ones I am looking at are manufactured by Insignia, Panasonic, LG, and Vizio. But on all 4 sets I am comparing the refresher rate is only 60hz. I am concerned this could cause a problem. Should I look for 120hz? At 37" will I really notice the difference between 120-60hz? I don't want to spend the extra money unless it is going to really make a big difference. Would love to get some advice from a knowledgable source on this. Thanks!

I have a 60hz TV, and I have seen many 120hz tvs (with motion enhancers on and off), but with the motion enhancers off, I have never noticed a difference. Regular TV and DVDs are sent over 30 frames per second, which works fine with a 60 hz TV. BLu-s are made using a film rate of 24 frames per second, so the 120 hz is divisible by 24 for even reproduction without having to use the 3:2 pulldown. The TVs you are looking at should not fail the 3:2 pulldown (I am not sure about the Insignia, but the others should be fine). A 60hz TV will use the 3:2 pulldown. Since people have been watching TV in 60 hz for most of their lives, there will be no change for them.
120 and 240 hz were built to eleminate motion blur... which is funny because I have never experience Motion blur on my Samsung or on either of my brothers V series Sonys, and all are 60 hz. However, I would occasionally experience it on my old 1 generation Vizio once in a while. Personally, I don't think you need to worry about it. And I would take tell you to get them the Panasonic. They actually make very good LCDs, just wish they would make 46 and 52 inch ones. |

If your gonna go 37inch then go with a 60hz tv because you wont notice much difference at that size between 120hz and 60hz, not to my eye anyway. 46 or bigger then go 120hz but 37inch? I wouldnt worry go with a 60hz HDTV. |
