Default Vizio or Phillips?

We've narrowed our television search down to these two models based on size and price. We are looking to buy in two weeks. They are both the same price and seem to be the same type of model, but I wanted imput on which is better.

Vizio

Phillips

Thanks so much!

The Vizio. I've walked into my local Wal-mart several times and have seen a Philips in the back of "Customer Service" with a "Returned" label stuck to it. Never have I seen a Vizio.

I've had a Vizio for several years, and it works great and has a beautiful picture.

The Contrast ratio on the the Phillips is 29,000:1 and the Vizio is 15,000:1

So that's something to take into consideration, but I would suggest looking at both side-by-side with the same input source.

Ah; Beta!...I knew you'd show up! You are never too far behind when a Vizio is being talked about. You always have to put your 1 cent in!

I would suggest comparing both in person and see which u prefer. In general I'd say Philips makes a better product, but some Vizio models will outperform a competing model at the same price point. You can't know without viewing them both.

I would look at the 2 side by side and see which one looks better. I know, having owned a Vizio in the past and my father-in-law has one now, that they have come along and have a better picture now then before. I also know that several members on this site that had a Philips HDTV complained about the blacks being greys, so I would see which of the 2 TVs gives you better blacks, that will help the color to be more vibrant, and life-like.

The contrast differance might not be so black and white because differant brands use differant measuring techniques. Philips seems to break more- i had a philips that was famous for ghosting/banding, and when value city was still around they had lots of refurbished philips.

And how is this constructive? BM simply made an intelligent post (as opposed to the anecdotal variety you employed) to help the OP come to an informed decision.

I have never owned either brand but I have never really like Phillips. Colors always look to washed out to me. Vizio seems to be better bang for the buck.

Panasonic 42" LCD

Panasonic makes a pretty good LCD, it runs $699 at Best Buy, why don't you take a look at it?

Toshiba 40" LCD

This Toshiba is $649, its only two inches smaller, but a good LCD as well
