I'd be more curious in a difference from the DVD master to the blu-ray master screenshot. I mean, the video obviously is night and day between the "before and after" used for that video, but you can't tell if the after looks GOOD thanks to the youtube quality.

The DVD had tons of scratches and uncorrected color? I've only seen the US DVD and don't remember big problems with either, but I don't own it and don't remember it clearly.

The DVD was upconverted from an old non-anamorphic laserdisc-era master, so the substantial bump in resolution alone is enough to make this worthwhile.

Interesting, but I wonder why they didn't just do a 4k scan instead of a 2k scan?

I do like this movie though. Classic horror thriller. One of my rental faves from the early 80s. In the UK it was originally titled Communion, which I personally prefer. It was double billed theatrically in the 70s with Tintorera.

Because it's from a 35mm print, there's only so much detail you can get out of an element that far removed from the negative, and 4K scans are more expensive to perform than 2K ones.

Like I said in the SF Hell Night thread (4K scan from a print) before it was released, keep your expectations in check. Prints aren't ideal when it comes to home video releases due to their high contrast nature and drop-off in detail compared to an IP or negative.

Actually I thought Hell Night came out pretty well personally. Much better than I expected and I quite like the end result for that release after the 4k scan of a print. Although lots of people disagreed lol. I would take a guess then that it's more about the expense.
