Default Blu-ray Disc Labels

Does anybody else hate it when Blu-ray discs have the plain shiney silver generic looking label on the disc? I am really bothered by this especially when the same movie on DVD has a nicely colored picture related to the movie as its label. It makes the Blu-ray discs look cheap. For instance, the dvd version of Deep Impact has a nice color label on its disc and the Blu-ray disc has the ugly, plain, cheap looking silver one. Why the change? So much is done to make the PQ and AQ of Blu-rays special so why not put a decent label on the disc! What could it possible cost to make a nice color label? 2 cents? Come on Dreamworks and Paramount just to name a few, stop making your Blu-rays look cheap!

Other Blu-rays with the crappy cheap looking labels just to name a few

Bee Movie
Kung Fu Panda
Madagascar 1 and 2
Monsters vs Aliens
Shrek the Third

Blu-rays with nice labels

The Day After Tomorrow
The Perfect Storm
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
All Planet Earth discs
Die Hard 1,2,3
Imax Deep Sea
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad

To me, the look of the movie is important.

If it looks good on my TV I could care less what the disc looks like. I mean for few seconds from the box into the TV, it just isn't a big deal.

I agree, obviously the look of the movie is more important, but I was just curious why put a cheap looking or no label on the disc after so much work went into making the movie look and sound great. They already have the picture template from the DVD version. Many people like and collect slip covers, I happen to like nice labels in addition to the movie.

I agree with the OP on this one. Maybe it goes back to the DVD days, but when I saw a plain disc it was pretty indicative of the movie as well (call it foreshadowing! ). While I don't quite feel that strongly about it when I see these types of discs on blu, I must admit it does make me think about it. Is it too much to ask for a nice label on the disc? What cost are we really talking here?

I see some people don't like the eco cases and digibooks but I don't really care about anything but the discs inside.

I've always liked the more uniform labels like the Miramax DVDs where it's just grey with the title of the movie. For some reason to me it just looks more professional like that.

Ther should be a poll to see which people prefer.
A) Fancy Picture Labels
B) Plain Boring Labels
C) It doesnt matter (you watch the movie, not the disc)

I choose A.

This is pretty much the least important thing about a Blu-Ray to me.

While, given the option, I would prefer a nice disc label, I don't particularly care much. The disc label is probably the thing you see least of - the case is on your shelf, so always visible to some degree, and you may read the specs off it or admire it as the movie is loading up. And the quality of the data on the disc is the most important, as that is what you will have your attention focused on for the entire runtime of the film. But the disc label? You see it a scant few seconds between when you open the case and when you put it in the player. I really don't see what the big deal is.

Maybe if you keep all your discs in one of those disc binders, the disc art might matter slightly more to you. But I think those binders are a terrible way to store anything, in terms of a) aesthetics, b) disc protection (possibility of scratching both front and back of the disc due to the backing material and the plastic sleeve holding it in, as well as warping and pressure concerns due to the weight of all the other discs), and c) security, what with the whole 'super easy for someone to steal your entire collection' issue.

i care more about cover art, but i like to open up my case and see a nice artwork on the disc too, universal is really getting half assed now, they used to put nice art on their discs now its jus silver with the movie writing in bold, soo boring

I think they look more professional. But anyways who cares, it's not like you are going to be staring at the disc for 2 hours (or are you )

there are more important things to worry about than watching movies, yet here we are all day.

I prefer a nice disc label, It's not crucial, but really adds to the presentation.
