Best place to buy Elite SC-05 - Blu-ray Forum

I'm looking to swap out my HK-254 with an SC-05. If somebody who has one and knows where to get a smokin' deal on one, info would be much appreciated.

....annnnnd I guess if anyone is looking for a 254 for a reasonable price, PM me.

Why swap out a nice receiver that has 7.1 preouts? Buy a nice amp!

Is there something wrong with the HK? To be honest, it is quite difficult to find one now. The only places I have heard of would be whateer leftover stock and floor models that Best Buy or other big box retailers that carry Pioneer receivers. Finding a brand new one will be quite hard. And getting a warranty will be difficult too. Why not look for a good deal on the Pioneer Elite SC-25 or SC-27?

By the time I could buy a SC-05, they will have already come out with the replacements for the SC-25 and SC-27! I'm gonna concentrate on getting new fronts and a new center.

+1.. I just got the AVR 254 myself because of the preouts. This way I don
t have to upgrade the receiver for a few yrs, just might need to add an amp.

Any specific reason for the upgrade?

Might be hard...what you find online is probably the best you'll get price wise. Maybe if you have a friend that works at magnolia best buy and they have some sc-05 left...but I had a friend tell me the sc-05, sc-07 were price locked for employees because he was looking to get some for his ht setup.

You had any audio issues with using pre-outs? I had all sorts of trouble with that receiver even with firmware updates. 2 blown fuses in 6 months...audio out of sync (I even tried adjusting it). It didn't play nice with my harmony one remote either...I had to program the remote for the 354 to get my 254 to work right. Harmony might've fixed that issue though by now...

Thankfully I haven't had any issues. From day one it worked perfectly fine and I wasn't going to perform any of the updates because many of the people who did perform them created new problems they didn't originally have.

I love my HK to death. Sound is crystal clear, and aesthetically speaking it is one of the best looking receivers you can find.

I just need something with more umph to it. I work at Best Buy and about five months ago the SC-05 was like $498 with employee pricing. I bit the bullett on that one because I never bought it :/

Wow! That's just......ugghh........AMAZING!

Sorry if that put a little salt in the wound.

I am very happy with my SC-05. Picked it up on the Magnolia clearance last spring. "Umph" is a good word. I have played numerous movies at or near reference volume levels and I have been nothing short of pleased at clarity and cleanness of sound the receiver's amplifers produce. I hope you find one, because if you do, then you may yet get a great deal. The newer SCs are likely every bit as good - and have more features - but I would understand that purchasing one may be a hard decision due to the difference in price. Maybe a pre-owned SC-05 or demo/open box unit will surface if the new ones are truly gone.

Haven't had to use the pre-outs yet. But I did check my firmware when I opened my box. It was 97.2.2 I haven't had any issues yet(knock on wood).
Thinking of getting a harmony soon too. Its a mess with 3 different remotes, excluding the blu-ray player

My Harmony One works perfectly fine with the receiver. Every now and then the TV won't turn on, but I select watch TV a second time and it works.

I'm wondering because there is an SC-05 at a store down there and they aren't able to ship it to me for some reason. I was going to pay someone to pick it up for me and pay for shipping as well. Anyone out there?
