Exclamation Third Little Shop of Horrors Remake?

This is even supported by Corman himself! I have no idea what to think about this movie.

The seed for another remake has been planted. Roger Corman's The Little Shop of Horrors is going to be updated under the direction of Corman vet and Wrong Turn 3 helmer Declan O'Brien.

"I just optioned the remake rights," O'Brien announced to ShockTillYouDrop.com this morning. "We're going to set that up as a studio feature." The director is going to be shepherded by Roger Corman and The Bourne Identity producer Andrew Tennenbaum "After I did this movie for Roger called Cyclops he was so happy he said, 'This is the best movie that's come through my doors in 20 years, so here's my catalogue, pick something else.'"

The original Little Shop of Horrors was produced in 1960 with star Jonathan Haze. This tale of a mild-mannered young man who discovers a carnivorous plant was remade in '86 with Frank Oz in the director's chair. O'Brien won't give up the goods on what his approach will be, all he'll say for now is, "I have a take on it you're not going to expect. I'm taking it in a different direction, let's put it that way."

Not to nitpick, but this would be the second Little Shop of Horrors remake. Alright, you got me. That was a nitpick.

Anyway, why not? It might work, it might not. There's certainly a lot of directions they could take an update in. I'll withhold judgment on this one.

As long as they go with the dark ending, why not, I'll give it a watch.

It will probably not be a musical and will probably be very gory with little CGI Audrey IIs running around. Yeah, running around, you can't have a scary monster movie when the monster can't even stalk it's victims.

This will probably totally suck.

I'm all for a slightly more involved presentation that doesn't make fun of itself quite as much as the Frank Oz version. I enjoy the 80s version quite a bit, but it was a little too "stage musical" in presentation for my film tastes. If I wanted to see a live theatre production, I'd go see live theatre!

I give up. Just get the original copies of the films that you loved and ignore all the craptastic remakes, because it's never going to end.

And will be so busy promoting Corman's good graces and trying to make it look "cool", they'll completely ignore the fact that Charles Griffiths' best Corman screenplays specialized in trying to be campy comedies:

Little Shop of Horrors...Bucket of Blood...Creature From the Haunted Sea...And dare we add, Death Race 2000?

I loved the one with Rick Moranis.

I do hope they go with the original ending though/

well if they made a CG version i think that would be fine , make it even more kid friendly ... im not too bothered what they do as the 80's version is already in hd on psn video store and its only a matter of time before they release a blu ray version

The original 1960 movie was quite campy, and intentionally funny at times. In fact, it's usually thought of as a black comedy. http://classic-horror.com/reviews/li...f_horrors_1960

I don't see how one could make a serious movie about a talking plant that eats people.

It's because the original was so odd and funny that it became a cult classic, which led to the Broadway musical version, the success of which then led to the 1980's remake.

It was part of the "funny" trilogy that Charles B. Griffith wrote for Roger Corman--
With "Bucket of Blood" and "Creature From the Haunted Sea" rounding out the "camp" series, unless you want to extend it to "Death Race 2000".

I see, thanks for that information! I've never seen the other Corman films you listed.

Ten minutes into "A Bucket of Blood" (the "beatnik" version of Little Shop, with Joe Dante star Dick Miller), and you know you're watching campy spoof.

The satiric coolness of Death Race 2000, however, has already been expounded upon in other threads (ahemjasonstathamdoesn'tgetit)

There was a 1960's version of Little Shop of Horrors starring Dick Miller and Jackie Joseph, here it is http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0054033/.

Unless you mean remake of the musical version

I want the 1986 version on Blu-ray, but I'm hoping they will find a way to include the original dark ending at least as an extra. Hopefully, that's what the holdup is. I'm itching to replace my DVD since it looks pretty awful by today's standards (it was one of the first DVDs ever released).

That's one of the good things if the remake is actually made, we'll probably get the musical on Blu. And there have been lots of rumors that the original ending would be included in the movie (they talked about a re-release in theaters as well) and I'd like to know if that is still happening. I watched it a couple of times on YouTube and while it's in black and white and there are sound effects missing, I still think it's superior to the happy ending.

Well for me this fall in the category of I don't truly care if they do another one. I saw the original and the 80's version, once each was enough and I have no wish to see them again. Since I did not really like the first two I won't bother with this new version.
