Default Is High Anxiety worth a blind buy?

I love blazing saddles, young frankenstein and history of the world pt. 1, so would I probably like this one as well?

I was wondering that as well. I've never seen it but I have Space Balls, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and History of the World + Men in Tights pre-ordered. Obviously I like Mel Brooks and High Anxiety is considered on of his better movies.

I didn't really like High Anxiety or Silent Movie, myself. The only Brooks films I find re-watchable are Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs and Young Frankenstein.

That's a hard one. High Axiety, as I'm sure you know is a spoof of Hitchcock films and Brooks does an admirable job, but is not as good as Young Frankenstein or The Producers(which I want on blu). Not as many rapid fire jokes as some other Brooks features. I think this is one of his that is equally divided on the like/hate scale. If you can get it cheap enough go for it, if not I would recommend a rental.

Many of Brooks' movies are so hit-or-miss in their comedy that I would not recommend a blind-buy.

It sounds like from your post you'd like it. I hope they release "Silent Movie" and the original "Producers" soon.

For me, "High Anxiety" hits the comedic mark often enough that I would recommend a blind buy. If you love the Hitchcock films, a purchase of this parody/homage is a no-brainer. In my opinion, it's not as good as either "Young Frankenstein" or "Blazing Saddles" but I prefer it over Brooks' other efforts such as "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," "Spaceballs," "Silent Movie" and "History of the World Part I."

I'd say its definitely better than Spaceballs (Joan Rivers ruins that movie for me) and Men in Tights (feels very dated with the plot exposition via rap songs and its Home Alone references).

I'd say its on par with Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles for sure. Perhaps a little bit better than History of the World Part 1.

Its the only one of Brooks' films I'm considering on blu.

"I got it, I got it...I don't got it, I don't got it!"

One of my very favorite Mel Brooks movies and very underated in my opinion.

"There are some very sick people here" as Cloris Leachman states as Nurse Diesel.

Harvey Korman, Cloris Leechman, Ron Carey, were excellent! The paradies of Hitchcock movies like, The Birds, Psycho, etc. are hilarious!

"Here's your newspaper"

It gets my highest recommendations, (especially for fans of Mel Brooks), and will be a day one buy for me!

High Anxiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiity...sing it!

Default Nearly My Favourite Mel Brooks

After Blazing Saddles which is in a class of its own, High Anxiety is my favourite Mel Brooks film. Totally whack. It helps if you've seen The Birds, Psyco and a few other Hitchcock films.
I don't like Robin Hood Men in Tights. Its just not funny in my opinion.

It's not worth it for $3.99 in the DVD bargain bin.

If you like Mel Brooks its worth it. Not the best of his movies, but not the worst either. As others have said if your a hitchcock fan that's a plus. Me I'd buy it just for Madeline Kahn.

oh and Cloris Leachman and Hedy Lamarr err.. Harvey Korman

Just watched it last week. I would stress caution in a blind buy. I did not find it nearly as well made as the other Mel Brooks favorites (Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles).

Picked up the Mel Brooks set when it was $60 or so on a Best Buy sale. I enjoy Mel Brooks movies but will admit, this is one I wouldn't have purchased separately. Keep an eye out for sales on the big set and get a bunch of his movies in one shot.

That was a joke. Anyone who has seen Blazing Saddles over and over would get it.
