Default Different size speaker wire

I am thinking about connecting my old Sony bookshelf speakers as surrounds. I have my front speakers connected with 16 gauge wires. The Sony's came with wire(very skinny). Is it ok to use two different gauge wires temporarily, long term?

It won't hurt anything to the best of my knowledge.

As fireman stated, you should be fine, but it is the impedance of those Sony's I would check out. If they are 4 ohms (which a lot of HTiB speakers can be) you could risk frying your receiver if it can't handle that load. Check your receiver's impedence rating to be safe........

Good point. I didn't even think about that.

To be honest, the last time I used that really thin speaker wire you get provided to you in a HTiB (what is it, about 22-24 gauge?) was for dental floss....... No offense browndk26.....

I would not use different gauges personally.

I do agree in general, but for the short term (maybe a couple of days) I think you could get away with it......

You should be fine short term, but I wouldn't rely on that gauge of speaker wire for very long......
