Can't find an online link yet.... but Fox-News is showing pictures of a balloon flying over Denver with a young boy (I think they said he was 6 ) trapped inside...... I guess the balloon is capable of reaching 10,000 feet

From what I heard, it's an "experimental" hot air balloon. So were some engineers working on this, and decided to put a kid in it for testing? Or did the kid climb into it and fly away because he's mad?

Who knows. He's moving pretty fast though.

FORT COLLINS. Colo. - Authorities were scouring the skies Thursday for a 6-year-old boy who unhooked his family's experimental balloon-powered aircraft and floated away from home, sheriff's officials said.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Department said the boy's family had been building an experimental aircraft that had a large helium balloon attached to it at their home, KUSA-TV reported. The aircraft was approximately 20 feet by 5 feet and covered in tin foil, the station said.

On Thursday morning, according to the family and officials, the boy got onto the aircraft and detached the rope holding it in place.

Several people in the neighborhood said they saw the aircraft floating over their homes and some snapped pictures.

Officials were scrambling to figure out how to rescue the boy.

The craft, which is shaped like a flying saucer, has the potential to rise to 10,000 feet, Larimer sheriff's spokeswoman Eloise Campanella said. Sheriff's officials last saw the device floating south of Milliken, which is about 40 miles north of Denver.

In Colorado, 10k feet isn't very high. He'll hit a mountain unless he drifts east, in which case they're screwed.

Yeah, the guy on the news said that the way the wind moves over the mountains, it will probably push him away from them, into the eastern plains.

Not sure what, if anything, they plan on doing to try to bring it down. They mentioned a helicopter wouldn't work, because as it approached it would suck the balloon toward the blades and destroy it.

Doesn't helium eventually degrade? So sooner or later the balloon would slowly decend?

Or maybe they can lasso it somehow and pull it down?

I can't imagine what the 6 year old is thinking....scared or having the time of his life????

Yeah, but think of the birthday balloons maybe 3-10 days ... I have no idea his weight to the helium ratio before it would slow and come down.
