Live stream in 30 minutes. Not sure what’s happening, but most likely it’s a reveal of the ABBA avatars for a visual tour.
New songs to be revealed too. |

![]() ![]() from Variety: ABBA, one of the most successful music groups of all time, has announced its return nearly 40 years with a new studio album — hear two songs from it here — and a new concert that will see singers Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad and instrumentalists/songwriters Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus performing digitally via avatars with a live 10-piece band in a purpose-built arena in London, beginning on May 27, 2022. The “Voyage” album will be released worldwide on November 5 via Universal Music Group’s Capitol label. The two newly released songs, “I Still Have Faith in You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down,” were recorded by the group at Andersson’s Riksmixningsverket studio in Stockholm and will both feature in the concert. The songs are the first new material from ABBA since the release of the “Under Attack” single in December of 1982, although the members, now all in their 70s, have released several solo projects. According to the announcement, the digital versions of ABBA have been created “following weeks and months of motion-capture and performance techniques with the four band members and an 850-strong team from Industrial Light & Magic,” the company founded by George Lucas. “ABBA Voyage” will open on May 27 the ABBA Arena, a state-of-the-art 3,000 capacity arena located at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. Pre-registration for tickets opens at 6pm Thursday (Sept. 2) on abbavoyage.com with tickets on general sale from Sept. 7. The announcement follows three-and-a-half years of tantalizing statements from Ulvaeus and Andersson about new music — first two songs, then six, along with some form of virtual performance — being on the way. The pair said in 2019 that the music would be delayed while preparations for the concert were completed, and finally a cryptic message about “ABBA Voyage” was posted on social media last week. In a lengthy statement released Thursday, the group said: “It’s been a while since we made music together. Almost 40 years, actually. We took a break in the spring of 1982 and now we’ve decided it’s time to end it. They say it’s foolhardy to wait more than 40 years between albums, so we’ve recorded a follow-up to [1981’s] ‘The Visitors.’ To tell the truth, the main inspiration to record again comes from our involvement in creating the strangest and most spectacular concert you could ever dream of. We’re going to be able to sit back in an audience and watch our digital selves perform our songs on a stage in a custom-built arena in London next spring. Weird and wonderful! “To all of you who patiently have followed us in some way or another these past decades: Thank you for waiting — it’s time for a new journey to begin. “We simply call it ‘Voyage’ and we’re truly sailing in uncharted waters. With the help of our younger selves, we travel into the future. It’s not easy to explain but then it hasn’t been done before.” |

while they are not the 'real' thing, I did happen to see "ABBA The Concert" a tribute band play at Wolf Trap last month - oh so much fun !! I utterly lost it when "I Been Waiting For You" was performed.
I'm going to wait and listen to the new album in full when it's released ~ so exciting ! |

I would also love full on recordings of "Under the Sun" (which I guess is too similar to 'Under Attack') and 'Crying Over You' - who knows maybe those will appear in 'Mamma Mia 3'

from SuperDeluxe:
...there is a Japanese SHM-CD that comes with two DVDs. The two DVDs feature the ABBA in Japan TV special from 1978 and two documentaries about their 1978 and 1980 visits to Japan. There is also an ‘ABBA in Japan’ photo gallery and a Japanese Single & Album sleeve gallery. This two-DVD set was issued as a standalone commercial product in 2009 but is now bundled with the Japanese exclusive of Voyage. With this Japanese set, UK fans can either pay more (quite a bit more) for the easy option and order it via Amazon in the UK, or chose to order from Amazon Japan or CDJapan. With the latter you will almost certainly get stung for import duties, whereas Amazon Japan takes care of that in advance. Bear in mind CD Japan are calling this product “extremely limited”. There’s also actually a second SHM-CD release in Japan, and this one is bundled with ABBA Gold. You may have heard of that compilation. |

Brillant album. This is pure ABBA. Just like 40-45 years ago. This is a perfect time capsule. Voyage is the perfect title for this album. Love the slower, quiter approach. Beautiful music from start to finish. Love it.

ABBA’s Voyage album has gone in at number one on the UK charts with massive sales of almost 204,000 units. The official charts company reported that 90 percent of sales were physical; the splits (not published) were as follows:
148,471 copies sold on CD 29,891 copies sold on vinyl 4,205 copies sold on cassette Impressive stuff, although in the press release to announce this news, the official charts company literally wrote nothing about the enormous CD sales and instead focused on vinyl, choosing to point out that, with those figures, Voyage was “the fastest-selling vinyl release of the century” (it actually beat a three-year-old record of the Artic Monkeys, whose last album sold almost 25k vinyl in week one in 2018). Anyway, if ever you wanted evidence of ‘the industry’ trying to ignore the continued success of the CD format, this is it. The album had “the biggest opening week of any album in four years” and that achievement has nothing to do with streaming, it’s nothing to do with vinyl, but has everything to do with the CD sales. Yet they this “inferior sonic storage system” (© Elvis Costello) – is not mentioned at all in the press release to announce this feat. The CD is the Format-That-Must-Not-Be-Named, quite clearly. It’s the Dark Lord that threatens the narrative of vinyl being more popular than CDs. I say this as a fan of both formats. https://superdeluxeedition.com/featu...november-2021/ |
