Writer-director Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown was released back in 1997, but that doesn't mean the movie can't get a sequel or, in this case, a prequel. The idea behind the prequel isn't the cash-in on a popular movie that it might seem. Author Elmore Leonard's 1992 novel Rum Punch served as the source material for Tarantino's Jackie Brown adaptation, but the book was in fact a sequel to his 1978 novel The Switch, which focused on criminals Ordell Robbie and Louis Gara, respectively played by Samuel L. Jackson and Robert De Niro in Jackie Brown. Now, an adaptation of The Switch will bring those characters back in earlier incarnations, with different actors playing the roles. ----- here is the synopsis of the book "The Switch" Ordell Robbie and Louis Gara hit it off in prison, where they were both doing time for grand theft auto. Now that they're out, they're joining forces for one big score. The plan is to kidnap the wife of a wealthy Detroit developer and hold her for ransom. But they didn't figure the lowlife husband wouldn't want his lady back. So it's time for Plan B and the opportunity to make a real killing -- with the unlikely help of a beautiful, ticked-off housewife who's hungry for a large helping of sweet revenge. ------ more then likely a direct to video prequel and well if it does get made, we'll have to see just how 'good' it will be. |
