just to clear something up for me, what sound formats can you get from the PS3 via HDMI if i had say a onkyo 605?

PCM via HDMI 7.1 ch and thats all you need

...the PS3 will do everything except DTS-MA, but it will thru an update. Anything that you want to play in it, it will do. Your best sounding option is just going PCM thru HDMI, you'll be more than satisfied and you won't want to pick Dolby anything or DTS anything, they won't compare.

What about BD's like Kingdom of Heaven? It only has a DTS-HD audio track. What will the PS3 put that through the 605 as?

It will play the dts core only at 1.5. Nothing more till they update the ps3 to decode dtshdma if they ever do. have a good day .

not at all i was just thankful for the quick response.... i had a complete tool on another forum telling me the PS3 DID NOT do pcm through HDMI and was calling me a 'sony fanboy' for telling someone all the plus points of blu-ray. he then went on to tell me how any serious home cinema enthusiast would not consider a games machine as there core player. i have just found out in another thread that said tool has a xbox 360 with hd-dvd add on. that explains it.
