Angry Best Buy Ignorance

So I went into Best Buy today to see if they had the Panasonic Blu-Ray player, and got into a heated debate about the format war with one of their incompetent employees. He was saying that everyone should stay away from Blu-Ray because Wal-Mart (competitor of theirs) doesn't support Blu-Ray, and to prove it to him i showed him their website on my iPhone where they offered it at a discount with 7 movies (2 in the box).

THEN he tried saying that the porn industry was a big factor, and I told him that some are going to release on both formats now.

He said that HD-DVD was better because they have Toshiba, and Blu- Ray has Sony. And I told him that Blu-Ray has various manufacturers and support exclusively from Sony, FOX, MGM, Disney, etc. But he insisted that HD-DVD had a lot of independent support.

After that he said he is ALMOST sold on Blu-Ray.....

Blu-Ray needs to do a better job of educating employees on how to sell their product. I have never gotten into a discussion about Blu-Ray with an store employee before, but if this is always the case then I'm worried. Sorry to vent, but I'm very frustrated.

I was gonna get a job there and be a beacon of light and intelligence in a place where ignorance runs rampant. But then I didn't lol.

Not the 'porno' argument again. It's bad enough that a Best Buy employee resorted to the tactic.

It's a frickin' joke.

Default yeah

you should have had him dial the hddvd help line ,um yeah here`s the # 1-800-RETARD,Prob another mis or uninformed fanboy ,It amazes me because they sell both products and you think they would have some knowledge about them but guess again ,hell i go into magnolia hifi and stump them all the time ,it isn`t hard ,it really depends on if you get someone who just has a job there as supposed to someone who takes an active interest in their work and what they sell. One cool thing is that the blu-ray display is right next to an hddvd display and you can see what crap it really is ,the look and sound of perfect will be when the life support for hddvd is shut off so i don`t have to listen to that annoying beep,beep....beep...beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep,ok call it

Toshiba is second hand goods these days, Sony all the way. His statement doesn't even make sense.

That's what sad about Best Buy. The employees could be replaced by a group of monkey's. When they ask me if I need help, I tell them no and go get what I came in for and leave.

That my friend is a Best Buy problem and not a Blu-Ray one.

Employees are generally representing the company they work for...if an employee is ignorant this will reflect poorly on the company. The BB worker also mans the TV/DVD player section so its not as if he should not have some reasonable knowledge of the subject matter. I assume that jamen6 did not go to the vacuum section to get into a heated BD debate.

It's these kind of posts that make me think the blu-ray website is becoming full of trolls. I am not saying you are a troll BRisJesus but recently many threads get these really strange responses that in my opinion are from HD-DVD fanboys, again I am not trying to single out BRisJesus.

By far I am a BR fanboy. I always try to convince people that BR will win the war. Hell if they end up getting it I'm sending them to the front, I ain't ringing it up for you. If you look for back enough I posted the first scan about the five free movies, it was my first post.

Default Best Buy Employees

Best Buy employees do not help and are more interested in talking to each other about what they are going to do after work, in store gossip, etc...
I have left many times because of their incompetance and the fact that they do not care to help the customer. I have spoken to managers that pay lip service but nothing changes. Not many of them do not know the products in the store nor how to best serve the customer. It all starts with whether or not you want to do your job or not. More often than not it is the latter instead of the former. If you don't want to do your job then stay home! Customer service in this country has gone to hell in general anyway. If the ecomomy is good stores will hire less skilled personnel to fill a given spot regardless of aptitude. The employers fail to grasp that these people represent the company, thus making customers stay away.

LoL all you need to do is walk him over to where they have the HDTVS and show him how many are hooked up with co-ax cables and say "My points beyond clear you cant even hook up an hdtv" .... I hate that and the problem is he actaully is "helping" people who maybe just got a big bouns or something, old people(not to be mean), and uninformed people would probly buy hd-dvd based on that nut jobs opinion... Id have just walked him over showed him the co-ax and said and you know what your talking about? bought my blu-ray and left lol

So you can't get HD out of a co-ax? Wow, I'll have to rethink my connection from my attic antenna.

And then there's that whole sat - to the mutiswitch - to the decoder box thing I'll guess I'll have to redo.

Who knew?
