I was interested in ordering this blu-ray until I watched a couple clips of the movie on youtube, and I was instantly turned off from Julia Migenes and her bushy armpits in this flick. Was she considered the hottest opera singer in 1984?

What a shame because it does look like one of the better opera movie adaptations.

I'm not sure what time period this Carmen is in, but under arm hair on a European woman in the 1980s isn't a huge shock...

yeah, but it's really bushy and she's raising her arms in the clips. If it was just peaking out, I wouldn't mind. And I don't mind stringy, but goddamn the thick armpit bush is a turn off. I had an Austrian girlfriend who didn't shave her pits, and I have bad association with that because when I watched those Carmen clips, it was like smellovision - I don't want to think of sweaty, musky armpit hair B.O. when I watch a movie!

I wonder what old masterpiece films have women with the bushy armpits, and I wonder if I can still watch those films now?

. . . probably my brain is dying, but I seem to remember CARMEN was reviewed some place or other as being Region Free, but I note on this site it is Region B - since the reviews around here get things right, can I assume Region B is correct . . .

Yes, despite of the fact that the disc is labeled as ABC, it is in fact Region-B "locked". I will try to put up our review later this week.

And please keep an eye out for the armpit factor. If those hairy pits only appear quickly once during her dance scene in this movie, then I may purchase it as well.

eww, I hope her pits look like upconverted DVD (or better yet VHS) and remain with less detail as possible. Leave it grainy looking. Leave it DVD looking. I hope they didn't remaster or DNR those hairy pits!
