Default some HD better than others ?

Why are some DVD's not many the quality is almost HD even if it DVD player with HD TV but not other DVD's ?

And why are some HD programs on TV better than other HD programs or blu ray movies better than other blu ray movies

And how much difference will 720 look than 180P ? I hear in future they working on HD quality higher yet.

If I hook up hard-drive to TV and copy program to computer and burn it to blu ray dic will the quality be low do to the copying?

Note I have 3 HD TV's in the house and 2 blu ray players and they are not that old.

A movie can only look as good as it's source.

If something was filmed to look amazing chances are it will look pretty darn good even on DVD. But on blu-ray it will truly shine.

If someone was filmed to just look pretty good than the DVD might be a bit crappy. The blu-ray will be an improvement but can't look as good as something that has a better source.

For example Donnie Darko was made with a small budget and could never look like Transformers ROTF.

What are some blu ray movies that look really good and some blu ray movies that do not look so good.

What production companies make good blu ray moves ?

Prince Caspian looks uh-mazing... and I heard Star Trek is flawless visually. It's less about the company and more about the movie itself IMO.

When a movie looks bad it's more subjective. Some hate grain, some realize it's their friend. A bad picture on blu-ray could still be better than the DVD. But like I said, Donnie Darko for sure. Basically most movies with a small budget.

The reviews on this site will give you a pretty good feel for what looks good, and what doesn't...... It's all subjective, but between the reviewers, and the user-reviews....... you should get a pretty good idea.

The difference between 1080p and 720p is dependent on your eyesight, screen size, and viewing distance.....

Resolution isn't nearly as important as proper color accuracy.... amongst other things..... so Many 1080p sets will look better than other 1080p sets, and the same is true for 720p sets.....

What 3 HDTVs do you have in your home?

There is really litle TV shows out in blu ray most are movies . I think it is cost it cost too much to bring out TV shows in blu ray like CSI ,Bones and NCIC ,x-files and fringe so on.

I mean..... a 1080p Kuro Elite looks better than a 1080p Apex or whatever they are called.....

I'm just trying to point out that there is more to an image than lines of resolution...... and that the "1080p" stamp on a T.V. isn't the only thing to look for.

You're looking at two totally different types of tvs. LCD and Plasma. If you already have 3 HDTV's in your house, are you really in the market for another one? Focus on ways to make the three you have look better. Pulling them out of the box and turning them on is not gonna give you the best from that tv. Look for someone in your area that calibrates tvs and call or email them. But like Beta Man said, everyone sees things differently. If you post what tvs you have maybe someone can give you some pointers on how to spruce up the pictures.

The poster above was saying 1080p Kuro Elite looks better than a 1080p Apex so I was saying plasma looks better than LCD here .

But from what people tell me LG makes good TV's. I was just showing one TV over other is better here.

I see. I guess these differences in tvs is what makes the world go round. If they were all the same no one would have bragging rights over their buddies. <evil grin> But seriously, I suppose the differences are what keeps the pricing war going on. I feel it's better to just go into a nice electronics store and spend some time with the tv's you like, because everyone's views are so different you need to rely on yourself when you're paying your hard earned money for something. I do agree that all blus should be Disney quality tho. Whats the point of the format if you're just gonna start throwing out any old movie no matter what it transfers like on blu. I personally would like them all to be reference quality.

I've never seen a DVD that looks like HD. The detail is just not there for it. But why does HD look different?

1) there is different HD, the resolution could be 720 or 1080, 1080 has much higher resolution then 720

2) everything you see is compressed, that means that in order to fit some of the detail needs to be sacrificed, the more it is compressed the more detail is sacrificed so the less definition there is.

3) if you mean TV, then some shows are not HD even though they are broadcast on HD channels, so what happens the SD show will be upscaled and then broadcast, so it was never HD to start off with.

4) and then, as others have mentioned, different content will look different.

You can't have all movies look the same. Film is a visual artistic medium. You have so many factors like age, Director's style, DOP's style, film stock, lighting conditions, film format eg. 35mm and 70mm. You could argue every Blu-ray the duplicates the source and/or Director's intention exactly that it is reference quality. Because isn't that what Blu-ray is all about? Bringing the 2K scan of the original 35mm negatives to our homes at a low cost?

I have some DVD's and on my HD TV for most part you really do not see too much grain and even some times when it is paused you really do not see the grain that much .Now cable is other thing some programs come in better and some programs have more grain and when you pause it there is grain.

If I watch TV on HD TV it comes in better than those 15 to 20 old TV's both the cable and DVD's.

Now a HD program on a HD TV or blu ray there is no grain and the color is very vivit and bright .It like this a 15 to 20 old TV's you see the grain and when you pause it there is lots of grain. A HD TV there is not that much grain ( well some DVD's and programs have hardly any grain and even some times when you pause it ) Now a HD TV with HD program or blu ray no grain at all.

A proper HD program or blu ray the color is very vivit and very bright and you will not see this on DVD or a none HD station . But a HD TV watching a DVD or some cable programs come in alot better than those 15 to 20 old TV's . It mave to have to do with the fact of the resolution of TV is much higher than those 15 to 20 old TV's .The old tube TV's 15 to 20 will not look has good has a HD TV LCD or plamas. So when you watch some DVD's or programs on TV it looks alot better .Some may not look HD but near HD .

There is not that much difference from what people tell me it is mostly for TV's that are 45' and higher that the 1080 come in. A 32' , 37 , or 41 , you rally can not tell the difference of 720 or 1080 but any TV 45' and higher you can tell.

Look at the discovery channel HD how sharp the show called Brainiac: Science Abuse comes in , the show deadliest catch , the show Journey to the Edge of the Universe , the show how is it made , the show How do they do it , the show Journey to the ocean so on.

Some HD programs come in so good and other HD programs don't look that much better than DVD.

Why does discovery civilization come in so clear than the lower stations ?
