Default My crystal ball says... Paramount to go exclusive?

Looking at my crystal ball, and I have a hunch that Paramount is going to dumb HD-DVD and go BD exclusive

Maybe the crystal he is using contains a large amount of lead and that is somehow effecting his judgement?

There was a statement from a Paramount rep a few months ago that basically said they were more with BD than HD-DUD.

Paramount have, correctly, been supporting the blu side more and moe... starting to give us superior encodes for instance.

If Paramount went all the way, and by 4th quarter were neutral... I don't think it would even be worth HD-DUD's time to get out of bed on the morning the holiday shopping started. Instead it should call in sick...

I know for a fact that Paramount is very pro BD, just like Warner is to HD-Done. Warner would never have gone neutral if BD was not so strong.
Anyways, I just have a feeling about Paramount, my hunch could be just that.

If they do go BD exclusive, and I hope they do, it probably wouldn't happen until next year.

thebluemax,

Any more interesting "water cooler" conversations over at Paramount?

It would be great if Paramount did go BD exclusive just in time to keep Transformers a BD exclusive. I don't see it happening though, not yet anyway.

I believe Paramount going exclusive would be just as good as Universal going neutral. Paramount should make a stand for the future of disc based content delivery and not let HDDVD spoil what could be a great means of content delivery for years to come.

Wouldn't it be a shame if Paramount changed their mind about releasing Star Trek on "the dud" and went BD with that instead? Ah, to dream.

That might be a possibility if Michael Bay pushes that. I hear he is a big fan of Blu-ray. Now we just have to get Speilberg on the wagon.

I think that Star Trek on HD DVD is some form of contractual obligation.

Were any of the TV series ever made in anything higher than SD?
I know the movies would kick @$$ in Blu, but if the tv series aren't in HD, it does little to just release it in HD format cause you gain little to nothing from it. But if they are made in a higher quality then I'm all for it!
Next Gen rocks! So does DS9!

You would gain shelf space.
You could fit an whole series on one Blu-ray Disc, but if they can make a show in HD then I would prefer that, but if not at least I could save on shelf space.

That is a good point! I have way to many DVDs already, and now adding Blu-ray will make it bigger. To have the whole thing on a few Blu would really save shelf space.

Right. SD content on BD is a no-brainer for TV series where you could put a whole year's worth of programming on a single BD50.
