Certainly Abrams, although he didn't direct the best Star Wars film.

Edit (12/16): if this is about the best-directed SW movie, then my vote goes to Kershner. Sorry if I misunderstood it.

I can't believe Marquand has 0 votes, so much for the OT fanbase.

I think most people are voting based on which is their favorite FILM rather than which is their favorite overall director

You kinda have to vote for Lucas though, he is an absolute visionary and without him you wouldn't have these 9 films of varying quality.

Well considering how much Lucas ghost directed RotJ, we kind of have two votes in one for him there.

Lucas by far. I hate the prequels but the man directed THX-1138, American Graffiti, and Star Wars consecutively. All three of those are classics that stand up to any stretch of 3 films from any director. I don't know if he lost his touch, his mind, or both by the time it came to Phantom Menace.

Kershner gets way too much love. The rest of his body of work is shoddy as hell and highlighted by 1 or 2 okay films.

Ron Howard is talented and has directed the most quality films of all these directors, but he's basically a top notch gun for hire director. He doesn't seem to have any kind of vision or trademark style, but he can relied upon to deliver a well crafted no bullshit piece of entertainment, which is actually something too few filmmakers these days can be relied upon to do.

Even though I disagree with you on your views on the prequels THANK YOU for stating that Kershner gets way too much love.....His filmography in my opinion pretty much sucks and people make him out to be Kubrick

So apparently I'm the only one who answered "Which of these is your favorite director?" based on the person rather than their Star Wars entries.

George Lucas - 2 Oscar noms, two good-great movies, three bad-war crimes movies
Irvin Kershner - One great movie, fourteen movies you've never heard of
Richard Marquand - One great (IMO) movie, four others (one of which I didn't like)
JJ Abrams - Four solid movies, one (ST Into Darkness) eh.
Gareth Edwards - Two solid, did see Monsters
Rian Johnson - One great (Brick), two eh (The Last Jedi, Looper), and the fourth I didn't see
Ron Howard - 2(4) Oscar noms, 1(2) win(s), 6 good-great films, 4 fine films, and some trash (YMMV).

I went with Kirshner over Lucas by a narrow margin.
