Default Any lists of superior releases from other regions?

Does anyone know of any sites that maintain a list of region free Blu-ray releases from other regions that are superior in some way to the Region A release? I think this topic would make a great sticky along with listings of region free titles not yet available in region A. I am also interested in a list of Japanese exclusive releases and/or superior Japanese releases. There is an excellent thread dedicated to Canadian exclusive BDs, but not one for Japan.

Thanks for any info,

Chris

I know there are two releases of The Crow, one from the UK and one from Japan. The Japanese release is supposed to be far superior.

That is exactly why I would like to see some sticky threads on this topic. I know of some releases exclusive to one region or country and of some releases that are superior in one or another region. What got me really thinking was encountering the Amazon UK sale on Sony titles. I had already known that the UK had a really nice steelbook release for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, but was totally oblivious to the fact that Sony distributes The Punisher and Terminator 3 in the UK and that their releases contain lossless audio and better PQ than the US releases. In the case of your information, I knew of the Japanese release but did not know, or had forgotten about the UK release of The Crow.

I think stickies in the main forum for each region covering releases from out of that region that are superior and stickies in country specific subforums covering releases exclusive to that country would be really useful. Even if they were just poster generated with no active updating of the first post it would still be a useful gathering of information.

Chris

There is at least one other thread here that discuss this topic, but not one that compiles a definitive list. But I agree, there should be a sticky thread about this.

Of the top of my head based on what I own, these are better than the U.S. releases:

The Crow (JPN)
Terminator 3 (UK)
Total Recall (UK)
Face/Off (UK)
Terminator 2: Premium Edition 2.0 (JPN)

Good list! I can personally vouch for the ones I've bolded as I own them as well and they do look better than the screenshots I've seen of the US editions.
I'm also under the impression that Terminator 2 (UK) is better than any US edition, as it wasn't overly processed and retains a film-like quality to the image. Haven't had a chance to sample the Japanese edition so I can't confirm which is better. Most people seem to think the Japanese edition is the best one, followed by UK.

Correct, the UK edition (which I also have) is better than either U.S. versions in picture quality.

The original Studio Canal/Optimum release of the Directors Cut, is the release to get. It is a great transfer. The Skynet Edition is exactly the same as the US Release. So the original Directors Cut Release is the one to get, but it has no extras. Personally, I'd rather have the better transfer.

Sorry, I was indeed unclear in that regard. It's this one, right? (at least, that's the one I have)

Yes thats the far superior release. Hold onto it because i'm sure it will become a rarity soon as its one of the best T2 releases out there

Add the Australian releases of "American Psycho" and "Casino Royale" to the list.
