Default Hollywood has created Double Standards ....

One thing that has started bugging me as of late with all the talk of the new Twilight spin off is the double standard between Men and Women. What I am referring to is if a 30 year old man said Miley Cyrus(for example) was 'doable' we are labeled pedophiles or gross, etc but a when a woman fantacizes over a 16 year old boy such as Taylor Lautner(for example) its totally alright I guess I missed the part in law class where a minor is still a minor regardless of whether they are male or female

LINK
Quote:
Considering people flipped out when 15-year-old Miley Cyrus was photographed wearing a sheet, yet pictures of 17-year-old Taylor Lautner shirtless and wet are all over magazines, websites and TV, Lindsay Robertson wants to know: Does Hollywood have a double standard? Well, yeah.
It's not fair to moan about the sexualization of a young woman and then print lusty images of a young man. A minor is a minor is a minor.
But.
Here are my thoughts: We live in a world in which young women are sexualized way before young men. Suri Cruise is wearing heels; Catholic schoolgirls are seen as "jailbait"; countries have child brides; there are "Lolita" fashion trends. This civilization has a consistent history of the male gaze focused on underaged girls. Intellectually, I understand that young women are not weak, potential victims in need of our protection. Society's obsession with keeping girls from growing up too fast — from denouncing Slutoween to holding purity balls — can be grating. But for me, there is a difference between Miley Cyrus with tousled hair in a bedsheet and Taylor Lautner shirtless: You can see shirtless young men anywhere — playing basketball, at the beach. A 15-year-old, seemingly without a top on, in bed? That's taking it a step further.
Of course, I'll be the first to admit that my views are skewed after working at a teen magazine for 7 years. As part of my job description, I had to assess if one 15-year-old boy was "hotter" than another, and find the "cutest" pictures of then-under-21-year-olds like Justin Timberlake, Rupert Grint and Prince Harry. It didn't seem creepy at the time, as it wasn't about sex, but about drawing on my own experiences and memories, tapping into my inner teenage girl. We were using headshots, focusing on smiles and eyes and dreamy stuff like that. And yeah, I am going to rationalize this until the day I die, because, dammit, cute boys are cute! Okay, okay: Taylor Lautner is hot. There's definitely sex appeal there. Sue me. Would it be creepy if I were a man choosing images of underaged girls? Probably. Is that fair? Nope. Welcome to the world.
Whats the difference? underage is underage, well not in Hollywood

I must have miss the part where they said the world was fair. There is always double standard according to what "society" find's acceptable or not. That as always been the case and I am willing to bet it will still be the case ten thousand years from now. Humans are humans.

Let me state for the record, I'm married and attracted only to women! I love my wife!

Ok, now that that's out of the way...

The picture of that dude is far sexier than the picture of Miley. I don't pay attention to a lot of the whining and crying we hear about, but the noted double standard is lame.

A big part of the problem with minors in terms of females, is the vast majority of men wouldn't think much of a 15 yr old girl dressed as a 15 yr old girl. However, nowadays, the 15 yr old girls that end up on in TV, Movies and Magazines are dressed like 25 yr old women with make up galore. At a quick glance you can't even tell they are children, especially if you don't know who they are.

I think this is a false alarm. Who cares if a guy takes his shirt off? I don't think that's causing soccer moms to get all warm and tingly. I haven't seen the Twilight movies, but I'm pretty sure they don't involve this guy gyrating around in a g-string.

Sounds to me like anyone making this argument is either a) mad that they feel naughty by watching Hannah Montana videos, or b) jealous of the shirtless guy from Twilight (and, for what it's worth... I looked him up, and he's 17, not 16, and will be 18 in a couple months).

Huh? 17 (Twilight guy) is old enough in a majority of states (Google says 40 of the 50). 15 (Hannah Montana girl) is old enough in 0 states.

The 18 number is thrown around because that's old enough to be legal in all 50 states.

I don't really follow Twilight guy's career, but I guess it's possible he could've taken his shirt off when he was 15. Maybe that's a bit creepy, I don't know.

Edit: Miley Cyrus is apparently 16 now, which makes her of legal consenting age in 34 states.

I also find it amusing that someone who is underage by one day would still be considered wrong, is it wrong for someone who has just turned 18 to sleep with someone who is 15 but turning 16 tommorow? I think trying to put an age limit as a deffinative means as to when it is and is not right and wrong is spurious and quite simply stupid for various reasons (people mature at different ages etc).

For example when I was twenty I made out with a fifteen year old, I however did not know here age untill later and had meet the person at an over 18 event (can't remember which concert). Is that wrong?

As for the double standard, it has existed well before twilight and Myley Cyrus where around and will consider to exist for many more years.

It's not just Hollywood. Look at the phenomenon of female teachers scewing around with young boys. A lot of people don't have a problem with it because "boys are boys" and they want it. If that were a male teacher and a young girl there isn't even a discussion. Could you imagine if a male teacher used the "I'm too pretty to go to prison" defense?

I tell you exactly why!!! the rules of life for women and men are very different. Every straight guy in high school wish they were sexually molested by some 40 year old hot teacher......I know I wish I was........you see!!! very different rules. You might call it double standard but the facts are clear.

But what if the female in question is what you claim all males are like (which is a load of crap) and wanted to sleep with some 40 year old hot teacher. Is it okay then? It's very easy to generalize, it's harder to actually to defend said generalizations.

I also disagree with your comment that men and females are very different, I know a male who is in his thirties and has chosen to wait untill he gets married (he is engaged atm) before he has sex. I never wanted to sleep with any 40 year old when I was in high school, yet I am male and I am straight.
