The Best Zombie Film?? - Blu-ray Forum

Ok this was a tough one. There are so many zombie films so I had to narrow it down to the ones I felt were needed and could actually garner votes. I mean there are so many Night of the, Day of the, Gangs of the, Dead of the etc.....so again I only listed what I felt were credible films that people know. So if I missed one just pick the next best one. Also I had an issue with a couple of films in whether to consider them "zombie" films and even got some feedback from a couple of people on this site. After the feedback and deciding on what a xombie movie really is I decided to leave I Am Legend and The Evil Dead (series) off the list. I went with the traditional zombie film, not spirits or vampires that have zombie tendencies. Anyway so thats that. Also list your favorites and worst zombie movie as well. Should be a good battle. My picks are:

Best: The Return of the Living Dead & 28 Weeks Later (voted TROTLD)

Favorites: (besides the 2 above: Dawn of the Dead (2004) & Planet Terror)

Worst: Land of the Dead & Quarantine

Dawn of the Dead (1978) all the way.

No contest here. I can't just watch a zombie movie for the sake of watching silly bloody gore. Dawn is intelligent, with themes that go WAY beyond zombies (to such distant themes as greed, materialism, etc). I havent' seen any other zombie movie that does that, or at least not with the chilling irony of using the zombies in the way that Dawn uses, with merciless efficiency.

edit: oh yeah, another reason that Dawn '78 is the shi%: soundtrack...that double beat track (DD...DD...DD...DD...DD....DD.....DD....) is killer.

I havnt seen this version since a kid. I may get this on blu though. I actually need both versons on blu. Got Em!!

I tried watching this a couple years back and it was so boring and flat I couldnt even get through it and I am a big zombie fan. Got Em!!

I voted the original NOTLD but there are so many great ones. I would say Let Sleeping Corpses Lie should be on this list as well. It's certainly in my top 5.

Worst: Zombie Lake. Nazi Zombies can be cool (Shock Waves) but this movie certainly is not.

Love me some zombie movies. My favorite at the moment is Zombieland...what a fun zombie movie! Great music too.

So many good ones to choose from though...28 DL, Dawn of the Dead (I've only seen the remake, which I loved), and the original NOTLD of course.

Those ones u mentioned sound like off the wall zombie films! Never seen or heard of any of them. Are they foreign films? Got Em!!

Let Sleeping Corpses Lie is Spainish and jwas just released on Blu as Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue. I would strongly recommend it.

Zombie Lake is Spainish as well but not worht your time unless your into Z-Grade Eurotrash.

It's not fact that these are zombie movies...the writers and Boyle specifically stated that they tried to stray from anything related to Romero's movies when writing Days (and Boyle has stated the movie is a drama set in a horror/sci-fi world, not an actual zombie movie), and while the film may be considered a "zombie movie" by some, it also is not considered one by many others. BUT, for the purposes of the poll, it doesn't hurt to put it up there!

Shaun of the Dead for me (at least for favorite)

I'd say best would go to Romero's original Night of the Living Dead though, since that's what is being asked...
