Default New Speakers - Help with others

Hello everyone and thanks in advance for your input.

I recently purchased a new TV (Samsung 40 inch LED) and receiver (Sony STR-DN1000) and have been upgrading all my equipment for my surround sound in my bedroom. I currently have an old Samsung speaker system (connected to my new receiver) that came with an old player as an all in one. It’s a 5.1 set up but needless to say it’s not very good. I have a PS3 now as well.

I am on a budget and based on the reviews and recommendations of this forum purchased the Energy Speakers (no sub) today:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-004-_-Product

So my questions are:
1. What is a good Sub to go with the speakers (again on a budget) –hoping to pay about 100 for it…
2. What speaker wires and size do you recommend to hook everything up. My old ones came with the original HTIB

THANKS!

Welcome to the site

Look into this subwoofer, good sub, amp and extension of frequency http://www.thedeepdiscount.com/p-46-...eater-sub.aspx

For speaker wire go to monoprice.com and get yourself some 14 gauge (AWG) speaker wire.

Nice speakers, I love Energy.

Oh, you can use any speaker wire from 12-16 gauge. however, 12 might be too big for what your doing and 16 is a little small. But any of it will work.

ALSO, you will need a Subwoofer cable and try to get a y-splitter 1 female/2male ends, that way you can go into both the red and white inputs on the back of the sub, that will improve the sound a little.

While you are using your old speakers, make sure they the Ohm on them are not too low. If the Ohm are too low you can damage your new receiver.

Ohms are the impedance level that your speakers are rated to handle, For instance there are 3, 4, 6, 8 ohm speakers. Many HT systems like the samsung you have can be rated at 3 or 4 ohm speakers. Your owners manual should tell you, otherwise it could be listed on the back of the speakers... but if they are just little plastic speakers, it may not be, and you need to be careful not to damage your receiver.

Many of the speakers and systems on their website have a 3ohm listing which a low for your receiver. I would suggest not pushing them to hard and getting you newones install once you get them.

congratulations. If you have any questions please feel free to ask or to PM me. There is also an Energy speakers owners thread and an Acoustic Audio thread where you could talk with owners of the products similar to yours.

First off, there is a total PUN intended.... right?

Actually it looks as if this E purchase was not my doing as he already decided before I got to peer-presure() him into it....

Well, Energy and Polk actually share a common-ness to them. Both are easy to recommend because they are very likeable. I don't have a problem with anyone buying Polk speakers, I think the Energys are a little better overall, but Polk is a great buy also. Have you had a chance to hear Energys yourself yet?

I was asking if he had a chance to hear Energys because I just don't see a lot of people that have had a chance to listen to Energys, and since he is in SD, if he was ever up this way, he could stop in an listen to my setup. I like being able to experience other peoples setups. Helps me to know what I want in the future.

How does the Take 5 Pack compare to 2 sets of Monitor 30s and and CS1? I was debating on these 2 setups.

the take system is good if you are looking for a small system to setup. I think the Monitor 30s, would maybe give you a little better bass response. but from the small speaker that they are they play good. Most people on the site that have them like them alot.

Personally I like larger speakers, so between the 2 I would probably get the Polks, but if you want a small speaker that sounds good and has WAF appeal, the take system would be a good one to get.
