Hi everyone,
Basically the more I think I know about AV matters the more questions come up! Here's my confusion. If I set my Sony BD PS350 to output RGB (16 - 235) and play the DVE calibration DVD why can I see the below information? Surely if my player is putting out information encoded at 16 - 235 (with 16representing black) I shouldn't be able to see anything below 16 (black). I'm sure I'm looking at this whole thing wrong! |

Hi,
To be honest I'm not sure. The TV is a very basic budget edition. Beyond the basics (contrast, brightness, sharpness & colour) it doesn't really have any adjustable options. If I set the sony to output RGB 0 - 255 or 4:4:4 the below black disappears(regardless of brightness settings) and the 95 - 100 % white clips. |

So set to 16-235 and calibrate. Make sure for example black letterbox bars (which will be then at 16) on BDs are as black as they get turning the black level control (usually the "Brightness") down, or use the calibration patterns on discs.
Again if you've chosen 16-235, 16 should be the darkest part of the image so if you have it lighter, then it's not black, it's really dark grey, and then you could see levels below "black" as they have become levels below "dark grey". |
