Question Studio Release Decisions

what causes studios to release less popular blu-rays over blockbusters earlier? i.e. jeepers creepers 2? are studios waiting for a bigger market? or is it cheaper?

They may find comfort in knowing the fact that if someone buys the "Jeepers Creepers 2" blu-ray, they'll fork out the money for just about anything. That really is a bad movie in my opinion.

IMO, I can think of a couple of reasons,

1. BD+ is finalized but it supposely will take some time for the studios to convert.
2. Oct this year I guess we are suppose to have some real cool updates on BDJ like PiP n stuff, some studios would probably wait for that to be in the market also.
3. Holiday season is coming up, and this one will be a very important one for this war now both formats are up and running, have some real good numbers to boast, and attempt to sway the general public to convert to either format.

If I were the studios (aka FOX! BTW if anyone from Fox is reading this, you guys are seriously killing me), I would hold off on the big releases as well for the holiday season for the big BANG. In the meantime, I would just release some 'popular' titles to keep the existing client base happy, and use the real blockbuster films to make the big bucks

Here's hoping Live Free Or Die Hard doesn't get released after the standard DVD. That could big a big one just in time for the holidays. Along with the first three.

Exactly, that movie is just crap as well as the first one. Just like New Line releasing Hairspray first. Are you kidding me? Hairspray? Where are all the good releases? Like oh, say LOTR, the Blade series, Rush Hour. Hopefully they are just waiting for the holidays to put these out.

...i sure hope so. some of the latest releases have my mind boggled.

i.e. gods and generals? wyatt earp? (warner bros)

talk about box office busts. (you're absolutely entitled to your own opinion regarding these movies but the box office doesn't lie. these movies lost studios millions of dollars) why release these? anyway...

with this BD+/BDJ stuff going down I hope by years end its all wrapped up.
it goes without saying Christmas is coming. i'm hoping for a market marauder, a blu-ray shock and awe if you will...

Hairspray' is one of the best reviewed movies of the year. I'll like to see LOTR on Blu-ray though.

just because it was reviewed good doesn't mean everyone likes it. Just like the Wii. The first time its fun but then everything is the same.... OK my comparison made no sense...
