Default Watching the Superbowl in SD? :(

Ok bear with me please. Gotta get this off my chest with people who may understand.

I (or my dad) have hosted the Superbowl in our house for a while. 10 years ago it might be my oldest friend, or my dad's friend Bill, who passed away a few years ago, who came over. At first our TV was the same size as everybody else. Therefore a couple times Dad and I would go over to Bill's house and Bill's wife and my mom would go out. Once we got a 36" 4:3 TV in like 2002 though, Bill came over to our house. A year later we bought a sound system, the year after that we upgraded to HD (yes before we had a widescreen TV. Our shows were letterboxed. ha ha). In late 2006 we got an HDTV, but by that point Bill's wife had died and he moved out of state to be with his daughter. We didn't see him again before he died.

Now I went to a new high school starting junior year. Needed a fresh start. I was lagging where I was. My new best friends are Sara and Bob. Sara & Bob started coming over for the Superbowl because neither had a 16:9 TV or HD. Now Sara is starting to come up. Her family has a pair of 32 inch sets, but they don't spring for HD or DVR. They don't have a sound system. We are on our 3rd HDTV. The first one died and we have a 27 inch in the living room, and a 60 inch Sony Bravia in the home theater room.

I say this year, as always, "You guys pitch in for some pizza and snacks (like 5 bucks) and we'll be set." So Sara texts today and (abbreviated conversation), it goes like this:
-You and Bob want to watch the Superbowl here this year? We wouldn't have to buy food.
-I could buy food. I have HD & a bigger, louder setup. No offense intended. I just like hosting because of those things.
-We were over for the Championship games and you were in and out.
-Cause they were predictable and boring at times.
-I'm gonna watch from home.
-I already said I'd buy the food. Just come over.
-But you'd be free here. Bring beer.
-I'll give it some thought.

(At this point, I HATE the idea. I can't imagine watching the superbowl stretched out in SD on her TV thats half the size of mine that we can't pause or rewind if we miss an ad or good play.)

Sara- Just thought you should know you'd be free.
-I get it, but Dad and I have hosted Superbowls for a decade. It's tradition.
-Then I'm not coming. My new puppy almost bit me and growled at me when I got home from your house the other night. He smelled your dog and thought I was a stranger. I don't want to push my luck.
-But what about when we're going out this Sunday in my car? Or wouldn't he bite us as strangers in his house?
-Did he bite you Sunday?
-Almost! I jumped back. Told you that when it happened.
-I'm not worried or I would have cancelled. Relax.
-I am. I'm just thinking it's all the same.
-Well we'll find out won't we.
-He's your dog; I trust your judgement (I said this to smooth things over. She gets really upset)
-Don't you want to shake things up? We have air hockey and XBox. You can play with me and my brothers.
-We'll discuss it with Bob Sunday.
-Ok then.

Thanks for bearing through all that, but its infuriating me. I want to host in my own house as I've done for ten years. I like it, and I'm the best place to have it with the 'toys' in this house. Don't even suggest Bob. He has one 19 inch TV hooked up for gaming. his parents still work a 4:3. But then she gets upset and says its bout the dog now. And I'm thinking: Are you never coming to my place again? Are you not riding in my car again? If you're dog is getting like that, it's not my problem.

Has anybody else had to deal with type of crap? And Sara has PS3 and loves Blu-ray. I can't understand how she could then not care about seeing the Superbowl in HD. Maybe I'm a bit selfish. But is that so wrong?
