Getting this for sure. I grew up watching those christmas classics. I hope it comes with a slip cover, like the rudolph one did.

This will actually probably be just as worthless as the Rudolph Collector's edition. Don't get your hopes up...but if your only hope is a slip cover, then you will be in luck.

Why was it worthless? I got it for $9.99 and it came with a slip, and the quality was alright. Besides, it has that nostalgia factor

Sorry.

Worthless in the sense it didn't add any real value over the original Blu-ray. For something that was supposed to be a celebration of the film, and a Collector's edition no less, the only real improvement was Yukon's coat being corrected to be "more blue".

No branching for the different versions, no solid bonuses.

Just fluff and packaging. So in my mind, it was a pretty worthless release.

I was hoping it would have been 'special'; if it had, I would have double dipped. Same goes for this one. I just wish we could get the other Rankin/Bass shows on Blu-ray, like Rudolph's Shiny New Year, Rudolph and Frosty's Christmas in July, Jack Frost, The Little Drummer Boy, Nestor the Long-eared Donkey and Peter Cottontail.

Now that I see the date, I think it's an error because 7/1 is on a Wednesday. Other sites like VideoETA are claiming 9/1 which seems to be correct.

It looks like this, and the 45th anniversary edition of "Frosty The Snowman" will both be included in the upcoming release of "Original Christmas Classics Gift Set 2015".

Here's the link to the pre-order on Amazon...

http://www.amazon.com/Original-Christmas-Classics-Gift-Blu-ray/dp/B00XZF39Z0/ref=sr_1_425?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1432341121&sr=1-425

It looks like it will include...

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Santa Claus is Comin to Town
Frosty The Snowman
Frosty Returns
Mr. Magoos Christmas Carol
The Little Drummer Boy
Cricket on the Hearth

The negative comments are justified.

2014 was the 50th anniversary of the "Monte Cristo" of all holiday specials -- namely, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer". With DreamWorks now owning Classic Media, and, in turn the "big three" specials (Rudolph/Frosty the Snowman/SCICTT), they had an opportunity to pull-off something really special, last year.

Instead, we got a Blu-ray re-release with the only obvious difference from the previous release being Yukon Cornelius' jacket was color-corrected from green (which was said to be on the original negative) to the more familiar blue, which has been used in the marketing of the special for decades.

No special features, etc. for adult fans of the show - this re-release was squarely aimed at the kiddos.

In Classic Media's defense, they did do a pretty nice job with the cover art/slipcover -- if you're into cover art, this one was very representative of a "50th anniversary"...

Hoping we'll get a little more from SCICTT, but I'm not holding my breath...

For those who are not familiar with the Rankin/Bass library, it actually falls in the hands of two successor companies, in the modern age:

All R/B specials produced before 1974 (the "Big Three" and "The Little Drummer Boy") are owned by DreamWorks Classics/Classic Media, while everything else is owned/distributed by Warner Bros.

From what I remember reading about it, only the 4 "big" ones actually in HD? I thought Drummer, Cricket, and Magoo were all pretty rough looking

As a huge Rankin / Bass fan, I would gladly upgrade all of these titles from DVD to blu ... if only they were available.

So has it been confirmed that the green jacket was the proper colour?

Agreed, and from what I've read, there's still some debate over whether the "blue" jacket is more correct than the green jacket.

For an anniversary edition, it was weak. I expect the same with this. Where's the other specials? Where's Jack Frost?

I bought the latest DVD of Peter Cottontail last year. It's only DVD but it was indeed remastered, and was a definite improvement over the old DVD. The new one is bright and colorful and crisp, and looks quite good upscaled. It should still be on blu-ray with the other specials you mentioned, I agree.

Does anyone happen to know what is going on with these releases? I can only find them on Amazon. No WalMart, Target, or Best Buy pre-orders listed. I pre-ordered The Original Christmas Classics Gift Set (2015). I checked to see it it was still going to arrive tomorrow, and while I still have it pre-ordered, the product page says "currently unavailable".

It looks like the pre-orders for this and "Frosty The Snowman" are still up. I'm wondering if they'll ship?
