Original story is here.

Note that they are interested in hiring a big name director for the final book.

Yeah,

One called Harry Potter
And the other called The Deathly Hallows

Makes sense to me. Gives you the option too if you're only interested in one or the other.

I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter books, not so much the movies. Although I really liked Order Of The Phoenix.

I think this is a great idea because The Deathly Hallows is obviously the most important book and they need to be able to leave the important stuff in. I think if they were both 2 hours that would be fine.

I heard that they are trying to get Guillermo Del Torro. That would be amazing and hopefully this happens.

If true I think this is a great decision. The last book is so immense in scope, and really there is nothing that can be cut without majorly effecting the story. The other movies cut stuff, but it was minor with no major ramifications. I honestly don't see what can be cut from Deathly Hallows. I wont say details because of spoilers, but I think this is the correct route to go.

I thought Harry Potter died from the Deathly Hallow final chapter? Isn't he immortal?

I agree with the split, and it could be great. Didn't read the books other than 1, but I think Del Torro is the man for the job. Especially after seeing Pan's Lanbrynth.

he is a horcrux. voldemort killed part of himself when he cast avada kedavra to harry. the second time he cast it, it gone back to himself, killing him (because harry is the rightful owner of elder wand, and it refused to kill its master)

I approve, if it was just one movie like the others so much would be cut out.

Did the news of making the Hobbit into two movies inspire this decision?

I think you'll either see a director from prevously in the series Columbus, Cauron, a director who previously flirted with the films Spielberg, or the hot director at the moment Joe Wright. Del Toro is pretty busy working on Hellboy 2 and an english language remake of the Orphanage if reports are to be believed.

They aren't making the Hobbitt into two movies. They are making the Hobbit and potentially a sequel to the Hobbit based upon other stories not involving the Lonely Mountain.

I'd be fine with 2 films; most of the others should've been atleast a little longer.

Either way, looking forward to more Potter movies. I finished reading the books last fall.

I saw the first 5 movies then read the last two books.

There is SO MUCH to the last two books... I've wondered how in the hell they were going to trim so much to make a couple hour movie and still have it make sense.

I honestly didn't see a way.

There is not alot of fluff that can be trimmed from the last two books. To do the last movie as a two parter (like Matrix 'sequels') would actually do it justice.

If you havent read the books PLEASE don't complain about it - it's actually a good thing...

Give it to Terry Gilliam to direct, if he'd touch it.

I think Guillermo Del Toro would be an awesome director for Harry Potter, although it may turn out a little darker than most would like in the mainstream.
