The first Indiana Jones film I ever watched was Temple of Doom when I was about 7/8 (which feels like an eternity ago) and I was riveted to the screen. That shalima scene always freaked me out. To this day every time I watch that film it gives me fond memories of my childhood. I love the original trilogy tbh.

I'm really going more with personal preference here; if I had my critic hat on Raiders would be the best, but I've always loved even more the more risk-taking Temple of Doom. Last Crusade is a few notches down, and Crystal Skull.....it never happened.

The Last Crusade without a doubt. The interplay between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery is just magnificent.
Runner-up would be Raiders. While I won’t deny that the Temple of Doom is overall entertaining, I’m surprised to see it getting this much love in this thread. Willie Scott and Short Round are extremely annoying and bring down the movie a lot. I would expect that most of the votes are a result of nostalgia (when revisiting movies I grew up with, I notice I’m often more forgiving to its flaws than if I would have watched the movie for the first time at an older age). Crystal Skull is probably the weakest, but in the end it was still quite entertaining, and not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. |

Head says Raiders, heart says Temple. The latter is such a gaudy, giddy EC Comics-type thrill ride that I love it to bits. I still love Raiders and Last Crusade and even have time for Crystal Skull (first half, anyway) but Temple comes out on top.
