I just dumped my standard dvd Optiarc drive...for some reason it just sucked! Would not read half the discs, and burning things was hit or miss.

Not saying thats your problem, but I was not happy with an Optiarc drive.

Just bought an LG Bluray Burner, and it has been a savior. Zero issues.

what program are you using to play the disc?

do you have BD (Blu-ray) Advisor? Try this application out to make sure your PC can play BD's properly.

we're trying to help you. Can't assume everything has been checked...or obviously you wouldn't be having a problem.

Seems like you have everything under control. Good luck with that.

I wish I knew more about PC's.

But my experience with Optiarc has been a crummy one. I bought an LG Bluray drive and everything is back to normal. Every disc is read.

If your last resort is to pick up a new drive, check out newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product...

great price for a BD player.

Have you tried to disconnect the bluray drive internally, and then plug it back in? or uninstall/reinstall drivers?

Make sure to try several different discs. If you can read and play DVDs and CDs but not read and play BDs you might have a defective drive.

Default BD rom : "empty" message with BluRay disc

(from ITALY)
I have the same problem with the same driver 5500A in a ACER 5920. Until two months ago it was working perfectly... now when I try to load any BluRay discs it says the driver is empty. I have spoken with Acer Support and they asked me to send them the PC. Anybody could help me??? Deftinwolf, any solution?

Default same problem

I have the same problem with the optiarc. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. It seems to not work with the most popular movies like star trek, spiderman 3, etc, but if I watch a documentary no problems with blu ray. It's an HP laptop with vista 64.
