Im going to be putting in a pair of ceiling speakers for the rear surrounds to complete an existing sound system. Not sure what size or brand to get with the current setup listed below, its kind of an odd system so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Heres the current setup: (front L/R) is an older pair of Marantz 4way with a 10" woofer (center) is a new pioneer dual 5-1/4, (reciever) is an older entry level pioneer. There is no subwoofer because of the size of the two front speakers the size of the room is pretty large probly (30x15) |

the budget is around 400 for a pair. I would assume that an upgrade would happen down the line but could be a few years away. Is there going to be any audible difference noticed on this system with an inexpensive pair vers a midrange pair?
anyone have any thoughts on this pair of pioneer http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-S-IC63...9946554&sr=1-1 Last edited by mzo0163; 12-09-2009 at 07:25 PM. |

personally I would buy speakers from a speaker company. Like Klipsch, Polk, Energy, Speakercraft, etc.

Take a look at Boston Acoustics in ceiling line as well. You want to be sure that whatever speaker you go with that it has a directional tweeter. Meaning one that is not firing straight down. Some of the better in ceiling designs offer tweeters that are directionally adjustable, other have them firing at an angle to better reach the listening position. Remember the higher frequencies are highly directional in nature, so you need to pay attention to what type of soundfield whatever speaker you choose produces. Good luck!

when i did home theater installs we used a lot of speakercraft. i was surprise by the sound quality (i don't usually like architectural speakers). they match up well with a lot of different speaker materials. the aim series is my favorite, allowing you to pivot the basket towards your listening area, which may not be necessary depending on your room/ seating area. they are also nice because they are made by people who keep the installation side in mind. even though you only plan on installing them once (i imagine) it's nice to know they won't create a headache for you.
