Default Boondock Saints Is it any good?

Some has loaned me a copy of this on bluray. I haven't seen it yet I was just wondering if anyone saw this movie and what they thought about it.

Awesome movie. The transfer is supposed to be a bit rough, but not horrible. Haven't watched mine yet, but the movie is pretty cool.

It's OK. It's not great. Some people really love it and I can see why but it's not amazing.

It was great listening to an interview with the director last week on NPR and how he doesn't like the image that the documentary on him created.

Is Boondock Saints a good movie? No.

Is it entertaining? Yes.

The story is pretty basic and the majority of supporting characters are awful(most notably the mob boss). That being said, Dafoes recreation of the crime scenes are hilarious and action-packed, the brothers and friend are quite comical most of the time, and Billy Connolly has one of the coolest characters ever to have a ridiculously fluffy beard.

Certainly a film worth watching and one that I enjoy watching again and again.

If you enjoy it and watch it again and again...
it must be good then?

No, I enjoy plenty of trashy movies and other forms of entertainment

IMO, for a movie to be good, you have to be able to enjoy the whole experience. There are some cringe-worthy moments in Boondocks Saints that I skip whenever I watch the film.

LOL - Yea, that kind of didn't make sense to me when I read it also. I thought it was very good, the Main supp. characters (Aside from the Mob Boss) were pretty good, Dafoe is Classic in his role & the Audio was very nice. PQ was better than most people seem to be noting IMO, but I think thats because it wasn't filmed to be Glossy or Pristine looking. It's a crime drama, set in NY, so it's not meant to look great I think. It looks good enough is what I'm saying, plus it wasn't a big budget film with Big Name actors, so they did what they could it appears.

I wouldn't call it trashy, but it's not one of the best of all time. It is one of my personal favs though.

Justin

Edit: Aero, it's set in Boston.

Ron Jeremy=trashy

It doesn't fall just on the mob boss, the old guy in bathroom is pretty bad too, and the cops are generally awful. In fact the only bad guy in the film who at all handles his role well is Ron Jeremy, and that I think says it all.

I think it qualifies as a good movie, pretty amazing what the crew achieved with a low budget and pretty unknown actors.
Well we can agree that it is a very enjoyable movie then.

Totally agree, although it is too far fetched to be considered a crime drama, crime drama has to have some realism imo, but I get what you mean.

I hear the sequel that's out in theaters right now is god awful. Someone told me it's so bad it actually ruins the first one.

Pretty much my take on it....... I think it's a good movie, but find it odd that people talk about it as one of their "all time favorites"

I wouldn't go that far. The crime recreations are still quite good.

One of the major problems of the film is that it incessantly reminds the audience of the first film with flashbacks and such with absolutely no success, I could see how that could be construed as ruining the first film. It's like the filmmakers decided that not enough people saw the first one, so they had to tell the audience the story again, instead of realizing that the only people who would see the sequel already saw the first film and probably liked it.

Another issue is that the female FBI agent isn't nearly as good as Dafoe was in the first film, although she holds her own in most scenes. The new sidekick is all kinds of terrible and the police from the first film get far too much screen time.

[Show spoiler]One nice surprise was a short scene involving their dead friend, punctuated by a cat walking across the bar in front of him.

Forgot one, Peter Fonda is hilariously terrible. He's channeling his inner Esteban Vihaio.
