Default Panasonic S1 vs. U1

What are the differences between these two sets. All I see is the U1 has a native 30000:1 contrast ration and the S1 has a 40000:1 contrast ratio.

Right now I am seeing deals on the U1 50 inch for around 800 so is it worth it to spend the extra and get the S1?

Some of the S1 models are actually cheaper on Amazon right now than the U1 models, which is interesting.

Makes me wonder if there is a catch.

The S1 uses the NeoPDP 2009 panel, the U1 uses last year's panel with this year's technology (600Hz, etc.)
That's why the S1 acheives 1080 motion resolution, the U1 is around 900/1080.

Shades of gradation:
S1 - 6,144
U1 - 5,120

Worth the upgrade? That's up to you.

How does the G10 compare to both of these?

G10 also has the new NeoPDP panel, but has more inputs including a PC input which the S1 doesn't have, more options including a THX setting, 48Hz mode, better black levels.

Yes. Trust me. Do NOT get any U series Panny. You might as well hang a mirror on your wall.

I have the 46S1 and its awesome!

Ok, Thanks guys you gave me all the info I needed to help make up my mind. I will probably get the S1 either 42 or 46 in the next week or two.
