Default Samsung LN46B640 ? Annoying Info Top Left of Screen When Changing Channels

OK, I am a 2 day owner of this new Samsung TV and am wondering if the info at the top left corner of the TV can be turned off. Every single time I change my channel on my cable box it automatically says "HDMI 1/DVI 60hz and the time". IT does this every time i change the channel. Can this be shut off. Spoke to a level 2 samsung customer service person and said lately people have been complaining about this but doesnt know how to shut this off.

Does this happen to everyone?

Wish I could help. I recently purchased an LN32B640 from BB and have it hooked up to my Verizon Fios DVR. I have never noticed the problem you are experiencing. Even though I have the smaller version, I would think they should function almost identically.

I am primarily using my LN32B640 as a PC monitor/PS3 display however. If I remember to do so, I will watch more cable TV on it and see if I notice anything like this. I only seem to recall getting a message like that on my TV when switching input sources, but not every time I changed the channel.

I really like this TV and hope you are able to figure out what is causing the issue on yours so you can fully enjoy yours as well.

I have not had any problems with what you are describing. Maybe it is an issue with the cable box itself and how it is delivering the HDMI signal to your TV. It sound like it is shutting the signal off completely when you are changing channels.

Thanks for the replies. Thats what I was hoping to get out of this thread. To see if anyone is experiencing the same issue. The Samsung guy was telling me lately he gets about 10 calls a day regarding the problem. I live in NY and have cablevision. I wonder if I get a new cable box it will go away?

I have the ln46a650 and had cablevision and the only time i noticed that info was when changing from 1080i to 720p and from hd to standard channel. that's why i left it at 1080i only. but i have since then moved to directv since cablevision sucks. Customer service is horrible and equipment sucks. i had to replaced the box 3 times because it kept randomly shutting off.

I have the 46" version of the LN46B640, and am encountering an issue where my blu-ray movies won't play sound from my PS3. The only sounds I hear are music and background, but no main voices. I have swapped out my HDMI cable and adjusted sound settings on the tv, but no joy. Has anyone encountered the same issue? Thanks in advance!

Hi, this is a issue with the setting. In the PS3 BD/DVD settings or audio settings i dont remember, set the audio out of the HDMI to "PCM Linear". I am afraid you have set it to "Bitstream" and all you are hearing is one channel.

For correct settings on your PS3 please visit this link from C|Net that tells how to set your PS3 for Audio/Video

I just got my LN40B550 and it does the same thing. But as others have already stated, it is only due to a change in signal resolution. So when you change to a channel that is a different resolution than the one you just left it will state what it is. So for example if on channel 2 and it is 1020 x 720i and you switch to channel 4 and it is the same then you will have no info displayed. But if channel 4 is a higher or lower resolution then you will see the info displayed.
