Default Need your Opinion on a Purchase I'm About to Make

here the deal

i went to a local HT shop and and put a $500(canadian) down so that the sales manager will put aside a 50" Pioneer Elite Kuro 101fd monitor for me. i told him i'm not planning of making a purchase until after the 25th of this month.

anyway he qouted me for $4,863.92 (tax in) it includes:

50" PRO101FD Elite Kuro ($3,199)
Environmental levy
Sonus Tilt 24 degree bracket
2 years additional warranty on top of the 3years manufacture warranty
Certified ISF calibration
Costom installation

am i going to be spending too much for the amount or product and service i'm going to have? i'm not very good at bargaining, im sure with everybodies help in here we can shave off a couple of hundreds or more.

Can you do the installation yourself? Or have some friends that can help with it? Just buy them a case of beer and some pizza...

About the calibration. I honestly think it's a rip off. For any calibration service.
You can set it yourself and you should. They might set it all by certain charts and standards, but who says that's the way you like it? Most people I know custom calibrated the TVs themselves (including myself), to their likes. Sure sometimes the colors look a little off to me, but like I said it's all about preferences. If friend x likes it exactly that way, then way pay to have someone else do it.
Also there are some discs out there that will help you do the calibration (video and audio).

I am sure you can bargain with them if you are able to pay it all in cash.
A lot of stores do and can knock down anywhere between 3-15% for that!

It's an expensive set you are getting and if you don't mind paying all the extra money go for it.

Just my 2 c

Have fun though with that setup! I am sure it will look great

As a fellow Canuck, that deal isn't bad. Warranties are tricky, I personally just bought a new V10 a week ago and did not get any extended warranty. It's personal choice but I believe these days that such televisions are made with an incredibly high standard, in which, any fault is quite rare. I had another Panny plasma for about 5 years and had no problems, absolutely none what so ever.

If I was you, I wouldn't get the warranty but it's all about personal choice.

I'm assuming the calibration is around $300 to $400 dollars. Again, it is personal choice. Some believe it makes a difference, while others believe a calibration disk does a good enough job. It's up to you if its worth the couple hundred dollars or not.

You're buying a great television but I personally would not buy the warranty nor the calibration. If you also have a friend that can help you out with installation than you don't need the custom installation either.

Ok ill mount it myself and get rid of the extended wAranty. Ill keep the isf cal., But ill bargain with them because their calibration is twice the price of the local FS. Then maybe ican get more discount that way

I dont think you want FS doing you ISF Calibration... check AVS forums to find someone more experienced with Pioneer Elites to do the calibration. Should cost about $300-350.
I paid $3000 + tax for my 101FD about 3 months ago

Doesnt look like they have any 50" Pioneers left

to find authorized dealers, enter your postal code on this page:

Might be able to find some more!
