Australia Bluray/ DVD sets

i think they should just release blurays with DVDs.. instead of seperate..
DVD for ppl with no HD TV or no bluray player , DVD to tide them over untill they make the change..
digital copys i don't care about really..

do the digital copys if contained on a DVD disc work on bluray or dvd players or they just only able to work in DVD-roms or game systems?

Most new release titles do get a concurrent Blu-ray release. As a matter of fact, the only new release title I can recall that I wanted that hasn't got a release is Drag Me to Hell as mentioned in the other thread. All other new releases within the last 6 or so months I have bought (Star Trek, Terminator: Salvation, Transformers ROTF, Inglorious Basterds, Angels & Demons, Gamer, Public Enemies and X-Men Origins: Wolverine) have been concurrent releases.

Everyone gets a choice, and with most of these titles there were the choice of Blu-ray, double disc DVD and single disc DVD.

I'm not sure how much more choice you can get. Besides, this is a forum for Blu-ray and you're advocating parity for DVD owners? Blu-ray is the superior format and the best way to currently watch a film at home. It should be given the priority. Exactly the same thing happened in the VHS to DVD change. People complained that DVD's were getting the "special editions". Well , that's because the product was special (well, then it was).

They need to do what they Disney did with UP, Blu + DVD ( not bad for $30)

I think part of the idea is, DVD for the kids (which they'll possibly scratch up), and the Blu for the parents, who prefer their animation in HD, and HD audio.

I'm for what MGM is doing in the States with catalogue titles, releasing a relatively bare bones BD, and including the pre-existing 'Special Edition' DVDs in the same pack. Sounds like a good idea for possibly keeping the cost down.

While thats definitely true with the 'blockbuster' titles, there are still plenty of 'new release' DVD titles that are not available on BD in Australia.

I personally think they should start doing this more often, Disney/Pixar are on the right path and I noticed Surrogates also includes a DVD version with it's Blu-ray. I know in the US they also have this combo though the blatant advertising on the DVD cover is abit too much (check out Traffic and Out of Africa).

I just think it'd be nice to have the BR version to watch on HDTV while also having a DVD version in case I wanted to watch it on my computer or what not.
