Default Pre-terminated Speaker Cables and Standard Speaker Wires

If my speakers have Binding-Post Speaker Terminal plate for Pre-Terminated cables, but my AVR has only spring-loaded connectors for standard speaker wires then how can I connect speakers to AVR?

Would I need to buy a connectors like these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B000QIZXHG and attach them to one end of the speaker wire ?

So, one end left for spiral connection to AVR and the other end with the connectors to speakers?

Thanks

Those probably won't work. Try some PIN connectors like these. They should fit inside the spring-loaded terminals of your AVR.

I would need to connect the wire with the PIN connectors by plugging it inside the PIN Conenctors, and then plug the PIN Connectors inside the spring-loaded connectors in the AVR?

Would I also need a thicker cable http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 ?

Right now my speakers are only connected through standard wires. I've never used PIN connectors.

(I'm really new to this)

You don't really need any type of connector, as long as you are careful about twisting the wire and making sure there are no loose strands that could come into contact with the other connections.

Banana plugs, PIN connectors just make the connection process a little simpler. They have absolutely ZERO effect on sound. You could try soldering the speaker wire ends as well.

I am guessing that your AVR is part of an HTiB (Home Theatre in a Box), as most standalone AVR's don't utilize spring-loaded speaker connections.

Can you provide a model # of your AVR?

the type of connector you are referring to is indicative of some of the lower powered receivers or some HTiB (please, please don't take that the wrong way, i mentioned this to explain about the wire size you asked about) so I would tell you that you would not need the large were gauge you linked above. I think #14awg is probably even over kill and #16awg is probably fine. Of course, #14 will do fine. can't say that you will hear a great amout of difference.

i would also recommend just proper "cut to length" wire properly twisted and inserted into the "spring loaded" terminals instead of spending the money on connectors. so nothing bigger than #14awg and depending on the system, #16awg may do just fine.

again, i'm not trying to be an azz so please don't take any of this that way. also in the future you should mention the gear you are talking about with model number and brand name; it really helps get quicker responsed.

best of luck and keep us posted!
