Daybreakers has its first trailer and it’s incredible. The film exists in a world where almost the entire human population has been turned Vampire. Unlike the scenario presented in I Am Legend, this hasn’t resulted in some sort of global Apocalypse. Instead, everyone seems to be living their lives as always… except only at night and with pointy teeth. There’s a problem of course. Without blood they can’t survive and they’re quickly running out of normal humans whom they can suck dry. Enter Ethan Hawke, a vampire himself, and a researching looking for a cure before the blood runs dry and extinguishes the last spark of the human race.

It’s not just the concept that’s cool, but the look of the film and even the music they’ve used with the trailer. It’s a must see teaser. Watch it in glorious high-res here or see it embedded below.

More vampires? Haven't we seen enough of them with Twilight and True Blood? No, these are the dark, gritty vampires, and one of them in Willem Dafoe (and other is Ethan Hawke). Now I've got you interested! Daybreakers was first announced years ago, and we even featured some first look photos back in January of last year. Now our friends at Ain't It Cool News have finally debuted the first teaser poster. With any luck, this means we'll see a trailer this week. Lionsgate has scheduled this for release in January of next year. This looks a lot like the 30 Days of Night posters with a touch of 28 Days Later. Pretty badass, I'd say. You?

In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher (Ethan Hawke) works with a covert band of vamps (Willem Dafoe, Claudia Karvan) on a way to save humankind.

Daybreakers is written and directed by Australian brothers Michael and Peter Spierig, who previously directed a 2003 sci-fi horror film titled Undead. This was shot in Australia in late 2007 and has been in post-production since. Lionsgate is bringing Daybreakers to theaters on January 8th, 2010 next year.

Would love to see Dafoe in a well made Vampire film. Thoughts?

Hell yeah, looks promising. Dafoe should be pretty cool as a vampire!

Sounds interesting. Dafoe's overall looks lend themselves to vampire anyway. I am interested but also worried as 2 years for post is always a troubling sign, I will likely give it a shot though.

That does look pretty sweet. I like the cast a lot, Sam Neill looked pretty cool as a vampire

I'm not good at watching scary movies, trust me. I've learned my lesson from 30 Days of Nights.

So there is a new vampire film coming out called Daybreakers. Have you seen it? If not, here is the trailer. With crap like Twilight coming out, there really hasn't been anything in the vampire genre that's interested me since Interview with the Vampire and the Blade series (really only the first one was good).

I'm hoping this turns out to be a good vampire movie. What do you guys think?

I think it has a phenomenal cast, no idea on the director and writer. Should be a good movie, will wait to see the trailer in theatres.

I'm surprised to see Ethan Hawke in a vampire movie. This looks really good. I bet I will be impressed with it

sounds like 28 days later, except this time around its vampires. The concept is interesting. I think I will watch this when it comes out.

Did you watch the trailer? While the poster is reminiscent of 28 Days, the movie looks very far from it.
