Default Security Tape...

Some of the most recent BDs I've purchased have not had the security tape lining the top or sides... Just the usual outer shrink wrap.

Not that it really matters, but wondering if it's getting too expensive...

I have noticed this as well. I would rather they get rid of the square security tags that are normally found on the inside on the left. The "soft tags" are fine as they come off easily but those little squares

Yea all 3 movies I purchased this morning were from Paramount and had no security tape, is it only them or are other studios doing away with them to. IMO they should stay off, they sometimes tend to leave sticky residue or worse like stretching the cover plastic, and with all the money I invest into BD, I would like my stuff to look nice.

Yep. First noticed this with NOES then today with Minority Report and Drawn Together. I hated them as it was a hassle to remove and some studios would go overboard and have them on all three sides. Glad they are moving away from them.

First they did away with security tape, now they need to do away with those locks on the side.

I agree with you on the standardizing of Blu cases. I'm pro-Viva Elite.

Isn't it funny how much we stress over the case or the sticky residue or the security tag in the packaging?

I prefer the slightly stretchy plasstic over the cellophane type....but again, a bit silly.

Guess if they were all the same, some of us would be happy. While many others would still have things to complain about.

I think movie companies used to do that to try and prevent theft, they may now just be realizing that it really does nothing to stop theft. People who want to steal will simply come into stores with a razor, cut down each side and slip the discs out, it takes about 2 seconds. All the plastic tape does is piss off the legit customers that buy the movies. So knowing that, along with the fact that it probably saves them time and money to leave the tape off. That's probably why they've started shipping out a lot of movies without it.

I couldn't agree more. I have several titles that have the sticky residue on them and when I put them on my shelf they stick together with the movie next to them. When I have company over they always look at me weird and wonder why all of my movies are stuck together!

I don't think they were too much of a problem once Viva switched over to the painted logo, but I do like that I don't have to hassle with them (on recent purchases anyway).

EDIT: someone deleted their post. This was in reply to that.

You can do that now. The security stickers are easy to take off and put back on. They come off clean so you would never know. Never done that and have no plans on it.

Most releases use the cellophane plastic instead of the heat shrink plastic. I wish they would get rid of the plastic altogether or at least make it out of a bio-degradable type. Plant based. They do it now with tons of things.

My entire BD collection of 112 I just bought over the last two months and they all had the taped sides.

Blu-ray Disc cases actually have built-in overlapping "security barriers" molded into the plastic at the top and bottom of the inside of the case to minimize these breaches. The 11mm Vortex case has the additional fold-away security latch over the finger well to deal with attacks from the side.

You're absolutely right. Still, with a razor blade and quick hands, it takes about 2 seconds to get a case open and the disc out. The tape really doesn't do much.

Even so, it does add the extra time needed to get through that "obstacle". I really can't imagine THAT many thieves though. At least not enough to warrant the tape.

Security tape doesn't bother me much but what does is when the plastic sticks to the cases and it takes forever to get off since I don't have any nails.

The square stickers on the inside left side are the worst. Don't know why some use that when they already have a security label.

Other things that happen to me are chipped cases or wrinkled cover when you think it's just the plastic wrapping.
