Default Games that cheat

Has anyone ever experienced the computer cheating when playing a game, I mean on any system for any type of game?

I swear when I used to play Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit on the Xbox that if I started doing well in a race the computer would always wreck me intentionally. I'm sure there are other games that have cheated me, but I can't recall them at the moment.

NFS is notorious, you could be 3min ahead and at the last turn there's a car on your ass. COD is the same, AI always knows where you are. I could add a million more, but you get the point.

i don't recall anything in the recent past...but i swore to god many, many times that the NES used to cheat to avoid my victory. i can't think of any games specifically, but i just remember the computer player or guys would get very mad and defy the laws of physics if i was playing extremely well.

Matt Hazzard will just stop moving when he is surrounded on Maxx Hazzard difficulty.

Most of the time, if you get knocked down in The Force Unleashed, you will just get gang raped.

Growing up playing the early Madden games we called it cheat mode. No matter what, when you were winning the computer would enter cheat mode and start throwing 90yd TD bombs.

Midnight Club: LA! I jump off the line first and they catch up like none other. I hit the NOS to catch up and it's like I never even hit it.

YEEEESSSS!!!!!

Command & Conquer comes to mind. This is a strategy game and you must build your camp up.

In this game you can't build certain things until a certain upgrade or a building is built and if you destroy that building then it has to be rebuilt to build certain items again.

I have been in the computer camp and was taking him out with a simple tank, I knew I had him, because I destroyed a building that allows for a more powerful tank to come out.

Wouldn't you know it, right in front of me, this tank comes out the building and I knew I had destroyed the upgrade to get it. NOT that his tank came from across the screen and surprised me, but came out of the construction building and the upgrade for it was not there.

I agree, but you can always "cheat" against the computer too (using exploits/money plays).

I second this, but take it to a much larger gaming genre as a whole: RTS's. This example above is one instance, but anyone else who has played the genre before can probably attest to another way the computer cheats: when you begin the game, normally you have to build some sort of resources center(I will use C&C as an example). Usually you have to build a powerplant before you build anything else. And once you do, you can start building a units building, whether it be for people or for vehicles like tanks and whatnot. But, while it seems to take a while to build things like the buildings and then the people, the computer has already amassed an army and is sending it down your throat! So, while you try to create and maintain a base, you are constantly fighting off wave after wave of the computer's endless horde of soldiers. That gets frustrating and annoying.

MLB 09 The Show. I've seen David Ortiz make diving stops at first base, the guy doesn't even own a friggin glove in real life. Nuff said.

Blitz 2000! It seemed that if ever someone was winning, magical things would start to happen for the losing team!

***I would love this game to be on the PSN Network! I would buy it instantly!

The one that came instantly to mind when I read the topic title is an old PC game called Master of Magic. Easily one of my favorite games, it's a brilliant combination of Civilization and a strategy RPG. On the hard difficulty setting, three turns after starting a new game the computer will always cast a certain spell on the world map, a spell that simply can't be learned in less than about twenty turns. And twenty is if you spend all your resources towards learning it. It happens every time, and it's so obvious because of the nature of the spell the player is notified that it's been cast. It's like the computer is daring you to keep playing after admitting it's cheating.

The crazy thing is, if I recall correctly, the spell is Awareness, which simply shows the caster the location of all the towns in the world. The computer could use that information without letting the player know; it'd still be cheating, but it wouldn't be nearly as obvious.
