Has anyone ever experienced the computer cheating when playing a game, I mean on any system for any type of game?
I swear when I used to play Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit on the Xbox that if I started doing well in a race the computer would always wreck me intentionally. I'm sure there are other games that have cheated me, but I can't recall them at the moment. |

i don't recall anything in the recent past...but i swore to god many, many times that the NES used to cheat to avoid my victory. i can't think of any games specifically, but i just remember the computer player or guys would get very mad and defy the laws of physics if i was playing extremely well.

YEEEESSSS!!!!!
Command & Conquer comes to mind. This is a strategy game and you must build your camp up. In this game you can't build certain things until a certain upgrade or a building is built and if you destroy that building then it has to be rebuilt to build certain items again. I have been in the computer camp and was taking him out with a simple tank, I knew I had him, because I destroyed a building that allows for a more powerful tank to come out. Wouldn't you know it, right in front of me, this tank comes out the building and I knew I had destroyed the upgrade to get it. NOT that his tank came from across the screen and surprised me, but came out of the construction building and the upgrade for it was not there. |

The one that came instantly to mind when I read the topic title is an old PC game called Master of Magic. Easily one of my favorite games, it's a brilliant combination of Civilization and a strategy RPG. On the hard difficulty setting, three turns after starting a new game the computer will always cast a certain spell on the world map, a spell that simply can't be learned in less than about twenty turns. And twenty is if you spend all your resources towards learning it. It happens every time, and it's so obvious because of the nature of the spell the player is notified that it's been cast. It's like the computer is daring you to keep playing after admitting it's cheating.
The crazy thing is, if I recall correctly, the spell is Awareness, which simply shows the caster the location of all the towns in the world. The computer could use that information without letting the player know; it'd still be cheating, but it wouldn't be nearly as obvious. |
