Hey, all.
I've lost many people in my life, mainly through passing away but also a romance that ended 3 times over a 5-year period. Whenever I've felt depressed or been reflecting on those times, playing relevant music can sometimes help me face the pain so I don't bottle it up and make things worse. So, what kinds of songs speak to you in this regard? Here's a few of mine... This one I played at my dear mother's memorial, after she passed from lung cancer almost 10 years ago... |

Although I don't have break up songs or loss songs, I do have three songs that are very important to me.
I Am (I'm Me) by Twisted Sister Believe In You by Amanda Marshall This Is Who You Are by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I made a promise to myself that I would thank the songwriters of these songs if I ever got the chance. I'm very proud to say that I have thanked all three in person. |

I was raised with my grandmother in the house. Still the strongest of character and wittiest woman I ever met. Unfortunately, her final year of life she got dementia. During the last month or so she was convinced everyone in the family was trying to kill her and she would only trust me for whatever reason. I was still in my early 20s so seeing her living in perpetual fear while trying to soothe her was heart-aching to deal with on a daily basis until she passed.
Decades before I was born she played piano at theaters during silent films, so I heard her play various styles all the time. At some point years after her death I started associating Vangelis' "Memories of Green" with her life and loss and I often tear up by the end of the song ![]() |
