This product has been around for ages, but I have yet to meet anyone who actually uses one. Do you? If so, is it a worthwhile unit to invest in?
Zerostat.jpg Static electricity is a concern for me in the winter, as the heating makes things very dry. Also, I'm thinking that some of the "pops" I'm hearing on vinyl might be due to such a build-up (although my LP's are housed in anti-static sleeves). Any information is appreciated! John |

One of the things that my wife brought into our marriage (aside from her undying love and affection ![]() This little unit is circa 1977. It was given to her by one of the audio shops that she used to handle the marketing for. I used to think that it really didn't do anything also. Apparently it utilizes a pietro-electric thingy inside to generate a fairly potent ion field, which is supposed to help neutralize static electricity. There is one very quick way to tell if the unit actually works. Place the business end against your bare skin and give the trigger a sqeeze. Ouch! ![]() After I got the new Michell installed, I decided to zerostat an lp that I could feel had some static buildup on it. As I held the zerostat close to the lp that was sitting on the TecnoDec, I could actually hear static crackle through my speakers as I squeezed the trigger. Lesson, do that with the lp NOT on your table. At least with the power turned on and volume turned up. In sum, yes it does in fact work. Is it worth the nearly $100 that I see it routinely offered at, I'm not so sure. My zerostat is at least 30+ years old and it still freakin' works. Apparently it is supposed to be good for something like a 100,000 sqeezes'. Not sure if this helps, but my experience is that it really does a good job of negating static build up on vinyl records. |

I'm so glad I started a new thread on this, because you've convinced me (based on your experience) that it does indeed work. The price is a little steep, but I think now that it's worth it. Hell, I've spent more money on other foolish things than I can count sheep. BTW Fred, I'll probably be ordering the Michell Dust Cover at the end of the month. John |

I've only found 1 product that completely removes static from LP's. It's 25.00 and does around 200 records when used as directed.
Read up on it and see if it's for you, lot of haters saying it gums up stylus etc but it's just not true. It really does work. Only issue is it's advertised as a record cleaning product but it really needs to be applied to clean vinyl. Last edited by CasualKiller; 08-12-2010 at 12:09 AM. |

Nice John. I think you will be happy with he Unicover. It's very lightweight and fits directly onto the platter. I usually just place the record clamp on top of it. As to the Zerostat, it's a unique little gadget that can be very helpful with static electricity. I too have been experiencing a bit more static due to the weather, but I imagine that up in Canada it's much, much worse than here in the deep south. I'll be off to the Saints/Cardinals game in a little while....Wish my guys luck! Saints 38 - Cards 23 Yeah! ![]() |

I've seen this product as well, but I'm hesitant about spraying liquid on my vinyl. I think I'm going to give the Zerostat 3 a shot first and see how it goes! John |

Hey guys,
I skimmed through an article about the zerostat or similar product recently. I'll "try" to find it. John, may be something that works for you since we are getting the arctic blast of cold & dry air. Anyhow people in dry climates like Arizona & the southwest reported that the product worked for them. Those who lived in humid climates like Fred thought it was useless........ We always have the humidifier going when we are at home because it is so dry in the winter & we have forced air heating so that only makes it worse. Just not fun to get zapped on a regular basis. ![]() I'm sure there are other ways of discharging the static build up if the cost is a little high on the Zerostat. I haven't had any static issues after running a simple brush (Audioquest brand) over the LP. |

It's horrible up here, you try and pull your LP off and the mat comes with it. Go to lift off your tonearm and get electrocuted. I tried everything, grounded brushes, the anti static gun, even bounce sheets under the mat LOL. Gave up and ordered the stuff above, albums I treated last year still have zero static issues.
