PS3 data transfer - Blu-ray Forum

With the firmware update 3.15 it allows you to transfer data from one PS3 console to another. I am wondering if you can transfer the copy-protected saves, and still be able to earn trophies on them. Also if anyone has done this can you give me the steps you had to do to transfer the data, and also any important things that I should know before transfering the data.

My impression is that you can transfer the copy protected saves, but you must delete them from the machine you are transferring them from. I have not tried it.

This may not be related to what you're talking about, and if so I apologize, but I backed my stuff up on an external this weekend and reloaded it on to a new hard drive and it copied everything, including the copy protected Rock Band stuff I thought I might have to redownload.

The new transfer system using an ethernet cable is one-way and deletes the data on both systems prior to transfer. It does however copy any saves that are copy-protected like Rock Band or Killzone 2.

It allowed you to copy Rock Band because it's on the same system.

If you put it on a new PS3, you wouldn't see Rock Band.
