Germany German Blu-Rays with new FSK Logo

Hey all,

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned here yet what's being discussed (very heavily) here in Germany, so I just wanted to let you guys know that a new law is requiring all Studios to release their BDs (including Steelbooks) with new larger Age Rating logos know as FSK Logos. Here is an example of the upcoming Bond BD at Amazon.de:

This will start showing up on new Releases! The Studios are already looking for "Loopholes" and will most likely be using "Flip Covers" for the Amarays, but it will be very intersting to see if they figure out a way to save the Steelbooks.

Like I said, I didn't know if this was known by the Steelbook Community or not, but being that most of those gorgeous Steelbooks we have all grown to love come from here, I thought you may just be interested in knowing.

Jep. New Releases will be getting this treatment and Catalog Titles will need to be updated by 2010. Like I said, very hot Topic here!

Could they not just put the ratings on a sticker and place it on the plastic covering the blu-ray?

The new law states that the Logo must be printed onto the Cover, so a sticker is not sufficient. The Flip-Cover is a great idea for working around the "De-Facing" for the Amarays, it obviously wouldn't work on Steelbooks.

Is the FSK logo just going to be on the back as usual or on the front like pictured? If so, it is a horrible decision and I am sure if they cannot find any loopholes there will be a lot less units sold.

This makes it look like a cheap rental copy at Blockbuster.

Anyways, can you post some links about this (even if its just in german, would like to read up on it)?

As mentioned above, it's not a sticker. If it was, thre really wouldn't be such an Uproar

The Logo must be printed on the Cover! Some Studios have already stated that they would Release with Flip Covers meaning that the backside of the cover would contain the Artwork without the Logo. This allows you to take out the cover, flip it over and you're all set. I mainly posted this for the Steelbook Collectors here, as there is no known Workaround for those!

Sorry, but it definitely won't be a sticker. I live in Germany and there are HEAVY discussions on this topic in our forums. Our new/extended protection of minors law (Jugendschutzgesetz) demands the logo to be printed (unremovable!) on the case. A removable sticker is not allowed. So the logo will be printed on the steelbook.

I won't buy any German release that has the new logo, because IMHO it destroys the whole cover . I will buy such a disc only if there is no other (import) option...

Germany Question about German Region Codes

The German release of Resident Evil: Apocalypse is the extended cut (not released in the US). I found it here on German Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.de/Resident-Evil-Apocalypse-Milla-Jovovich/dp/B000TUM1BC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1255379298&sr=1-4

Anyone know the region code of this and whether or not it would play in a US PS3? I'm trying to find out if it's region free but I cannot find it on the list of region codes (unless I missed it.)

Are those giant German Ratings Logo's removable? Is it a sticker or is it actually printed on the steelbook?

Some are stickers while others are printed on. Depends on the movie.

Well whether or not it's a removable sticker is one of the first things most people report in the thread for that particular movie once they have it in hand.
