Default Need your TV advice

I have a question regarding TVs. I have the chance to buy a Sony XBR10 or a Pioneer PDP-6020FD for Xmas time. Should I pull the trigger on either one of these OR should I be a patient fella and wait for the XBR12?

I'd be watching tv, blu's of course, and gaming on the 360.

Your thoughts?

Ok, so Pioneer would be the way to go.

My concern now is I have my XBR3 wall mounted and my new TV would be on the same mount.

I have this exact mount: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

Anyone forsee a problem with the Pioneer and this mount?

The Pioneer 6020 will not work with that mount. (nor any mount that I could find on monoprice. My dad has the Pioneer 6020 and I looked all around for mounts that fit...ended up with a Sanus mount that finally fit the Pioneer)

Let's say I go with the pioneer, which a lot of you would jump on. Would I have to redrill a new set of holes into my studs and reset and remount the pioneer on a new mount.

Would the new or previously drilled holes weaken the new mount being that I'll be putting it on the same wall?

Yes, you would need to drill new holes...as for weakening the stud? I don't believe it would. But, the 60" is big enough to where you might even be using different studs anyway.

The mount I know for a fact works with the Pioneer 6020 is the Sanus VMPL3B.

This is his TV! (bad cell phone pic )

How is this post supposed to be helpful in any way? One of the options the OP presented was to wait for the XBR12 and then someone responded and recommended doing so.

I just don't get some people...

Hahaha...yeah that wasn't the most productive response, but I have to agree with the point of it. Why wait for what may or may not be great when you can get the third best 60" TV available(behind the 141FD and 151FD of course) now? On top of that I expect a very hefty price tag on the XBR12 with Sony's current track record. Samsung is charging $4000 for the 55" B8500 and Sony always wants more for their competing sets. Wasn't the 55" XBR8 like $4500 at a discounted price while normally going for $5500? Paying more for smaller and not quite as good sets doesn't really make sense to me.

Yes, the B8500 is very close to Pioneer in black level and I expect the XBR12 to be also, but so long as off-axis viewing degrades the picture...an issue that will never be completely solved with LCD technology...plasma is always going to be a better viewing experience. Pioneer will maintain the crown until Panasonic, Samsung, or LG manage to significantly improve their plasmas, and Panasonic is the closest at this point with still a ways to go. In all honesty I think matching Pioneer is as far as these companies may be able to get until OLED becomes the norm.

I guess it would be a bad idea to get a pullout/swivel mount for a 60" tv due to sheer size and weight.

I'll keep you all posted on which route I end up taking, depending on tv availability.

I don't know that I would do that. Plasmas are heavy and that would be a lot of weight on a full-motion mount.

It would be more for accessing the back of the TV rather than needing to have it fully extended. I've only pulled the tv I have mounted like 3 times to change out/add cables since I mounted it.

In that case it probably wouldn't be so bad. I was thinking of pulling the mount out and leaving it that way.

Nooooo that would be too much lol. I'm talking about something as simple as pulling the tv out a bit, removing/adding a cable in the back of the tv, then sliding it back.

So a swivel mount wouldn't be so bad in my case?
